Bear (RIP)

Bear was a seal point Himalayan. His registered name was Baron Graf Claws von Schaefer, but we always called him Bear because he was as cuddly as a teddy bear. Unfortunately, he was a cat of very little brains and coordination. When he was chasing around the house, he often missed the turns and ran into the walls. I always thought if he were human he would have been the stereotypical "surfer dude". He loved lasagne--just like Garfield and he did learn one really cute trick. My mother-in-law's poodle taught him to sit up and beg. I guess he saw the dog rewarded with food for doing it and decided he wanted a piece of that action! Bear had to be euthanized at the age of 13. He had a very aggressive form of cancer. When I meet him at the Rainbow Bridge, I'd better have some kitty snacks with me, because I know when he sees me, he will sit up and beg. -Karen S.

Good morning all! Wasn't Bear just adorable and handsome too! I love his begging picture! Sounds like he was a sweet boy!

ML - Guess what!!? I know two...yes, 2 secrets that you don't know! Hehehe! Let the fun begin! J/K...but I do know 2 secrets. And Rose, I guess your secret is about to become known to you today? Is that right?! No more teasing Rose after today?!

danielle said...

Good morning fuzzies!!!! Oh my cuteness Bear looks like he was just so awesome. Its ok if they aren't the brightest Spot is just like that. Those pictures are jus great.

I have a secret. Only one maybe two.

Bear was a very handsome boy and although not very coordinated, sounds like he was very intelligent with regard to food begging. Thanks you for sharing his story with us. Love his face!!

Ricki said...

Oh, Bear was beautiful.
Kat you need to put an astrick or something beside the names of the fur babies that passed on, I hate reading these stories about these wonderful babies, only to find heartbreak at the end...so we need or I need something that will forewarn me. ;o{

Bear is so adorable. He shares a name with my poodle, Bear, who was named after Winnie the Pooh Bear (the British version, thank you, not the Disney "interpretation").

Love the photo of Bear "begging". You can just see him copying the poodle, thinking, I think this is how he does it. Do I look right???

And the first photo, looks like he got into a bit of mischief! Like he is saying "who me???".

Karen S, the story brought tears to my eyes. Bear sounds about as coordinated as I am! I'll be he was a riot to watch (although he probably scared you to death at times).

Missy (cat) copies Bear (poodle) around here. Missy has started dashing around the house, imitating the hyperactive poodle. Maybe that's where your Bear cat got the chasing moves?

Okay, I know a BIG secret about today. Yup, it's catnip for Rose, actually, for the three Royal Cats. But there's something else...!

[humming begins....]

That's all the secrets I know. Want more secrets!

Oh, and Riquel, I emailed you about the Fuzz Pack Family Tree, so I can ship it over to you. Check last night's messages for the details.

Hope Deb feels better today.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Hello all!!! Bear, what a beautiful cat he was! The picture on the right must just bring you the sweetest memories! He looks like such a character!

I agree with Riquel, some kind of symbol by the name would be a great idea for cats that have passed on. Then we know that we're about to read a tribute and have our tissues ready!!!

There are just so many secret out there that I'm losing track and losing my mind. We can't do so many secrets at once anymore, my sanity can't take it!!!! ARGH!!! LOL!!!!

Rose, today is the day! I'm so excited and just sitting on the edge of my chair!!!

Need to run, so busy this morning!!!!

Bear, was a very cute kitty. And way smart enough to teach his humans to feed him when he imitates the poodle! LOL. I love the pictures of him begging.

Anonymous said...

Bear was gorgeous and smart! i love the 'surfer dude' reference but i think even tho' he was uncoordinated, he was very smart!
how funny that he learned the trick from the dog and ate lasagna too....love both the pix! and your write-up of him brought tears to my eyes.

I third the motion for a symbol, maybe some kind of kitty angel to put by the name? Or a Rainbow Bridge? Give us a bit of warning.

Okay, Fuzz Pack, I'm sending Riguel our FPFT (Fuzz Pack Family Tree) which she will be officially handling.

And just talked to Deb, she is right this minute calling Karen C's shelter to beg early release of little KC (named in honor of Karen C) so she can fly to Houston. Ohhhh, can't wait. Anyone who would like a picture, just ask. I'll post it on Missy's web site, too, maybe no text, but just the photo right now.

I would like everyone's birthdays too... :o)

Karen S. Bear was a very handsome kitty. That was cute that he learned to beg from the poodle. Pounce sends kitty hugs and loves to you.
I 4th the symbole for giving us a warning that we need our tissues.

I hope everyone is doing good.

ML- I don't know if you saw last nights post, Yes please on the step by step link changing .

Hey, Rose...
...is that Brown at your door??????

[evil laughter begins....humming is heard in the background....]

Karen S.: Your bear was a beautiful kitty. I know that he is waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge. You definitely better have those snacks with you, cause he will be begging! I'm sorry for your loss!

ATTENTION: FUZZ PACK: LAST DAY TO TRIPLE T ROSE: The package should arrive sometime around 1:00.

But...ML's package won't arrive for another 5-6 days.....MUA-HA-HA-HA anyone who wants to know her DLS, just email me. NOT YOU ML!

By the way, I AM IMMUNE FROM THIS TRIPLE T STUFF AND I HAVE THE IDOL TO PROVE IT! :)

Right now I am on hold with the the shelter manager that has K.C. and I am just sweet talkin' my self hoarse. Wish me luck. I'll be back on when I convince this guy -- and I will!!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Oh, that poor shelter manager, if he put Deb on hold thinking he could get out of this...he has so met his match.

Hee-hee, KC on her way to Houston! Yes.

Deb, what IDOL? A survivor idol won't get you poo on Kat's, will it Fuzz Pack! Immunity -- NO WAY! Triple T's to Deb.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Deb, I SO don't think so sweetheart!

Hip Hip Hooray! Little KC is soon on her way!!!

Rose, please let everyone know ASAP!

OH, "The Waiting is the hardest part" as Tom Petty put it so elegantly.

If you happen by my blog, I have a cute story about Miss Casey Elyse Cameron!

The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...

Congratulations, Deb, Karen C. and ML! Just saw K.C.'s picture on Missy's site. The expression in her eyes made my heart ache, but that's all behind her now!

I think it took a lot of gall for them to ask for an "adoption fee" on a kitten that would no longer be here if it weren't for Karen's intervention. I mean, really!

Didn't see Bear's name on the top of his picture until just now. It does say R.I.P. Blogger's at it again! ML-even on your site today!! I had to scroll all the way down and then back up again, to see K.C.'s story.

Bear, dude, Lasagna is totally kickin'! I imagine he's expecting a pan of Lasagna at the Rainbow Bridge, too...I'll bring him some when it's my turn! My Basset Hound, Baggins is there, and he loves ANYTHING Italian!! When I made spaghetti and meatballs, my father would put a plate out for Baggins before eating his own!
yeah, lasagna...now I'm hungry!!

Well, no lasagna today - need olive oil, ricotta, mozzerella, a "nice Chianti"...no fava beans...

I'm still waiting on the guy in the brown shorts...I wonder if he would guess I'm a perv if I took his picture? Oh, I SO wanna do that!!!

Emily's found out about the catnip, ML, and she's LITERALLY waiting at the door for it! She hasn't had a hit of catnip in quite a while, so I have to be careful she doesn't overindulge...
actually, I wan't to see her act silly...the Young Royals will think 'what the???'

chat later...

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Oh, I love Tom Petty. And yes, the waiting is the hardest part.

Wonder if Rose is even up???? hee-hee.

Oh, Rose, is that someone at your door...????

Ok, now how many DLS are there? I know Rose will find hers out today

Karen C., Deb and ML, you are my heros for saving little KC. I saw her on Missy's site and I still have tears in my eyes thinking about how frightened she must be and how you angels have saved her. Once she is settled and knows she is loved, she will be so happy and give back that love 10 times. Bless you all.

Bear, you were a very handsome kitty to grace this earth. Actually since your one picture is by a door, maybe you were begging to go outside. Really cute.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Hi Kathleen,
Are you feeling better? Been really worried about you. Need an update on how you are doing.

Sorry to hear about Cairo, poor Rosie. Wish I could take Cairo, but with Missy (Pissy Missy, that's what Charley calls her), lots of luck.

Maybe one of our experienced Fuzz Pack has some advice, maybe it's passed that.

The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...

Hi Kathleen, oh, it's such a shame Cairo is not peacefully sharing you with Rosie. Cairo perhaps needs a dedicated one-cat-lap. We will all put our prayers and thoughts together to place Cairo in her meant-to-be-furrever home. It Is unfair to Rosie, to have to experience that much stress in her home. Cairo is BEAUTIFUL! We'll find her a good home, because there are people, like yourself, who can see past her "disability" and experience the purring lovemuffin she is.

Blogger has to be in need of a good Colon Cleansing again, because it's acting just downright stupid today! I entered three posts on my site that didn't appeared to take. Finally, it looked like the 4th took...then I noticed the "missing" posts under the last post (you all following this? It's hot, so I'll wait...)

I'm going on an excursion to my mailbox...
we shall return...

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Hello again ladies!

Kathleen, we'll get this worked out!

Deb, has the swelling gone down? How do you feel?

Rose, any news yet?

Everyone, hello, yet again. I'm just so happy about the day today and love talking to all of you!

danielle said...

Well we have four cats and they were not introduced slowly at all. They are inside and outside cats. They growl and hiss at each other very little fighting going on. We have been there almost 2 years and they still act that way. They just have to deal with each other.

Larry was referring to this site:
http://cats.about.com/
It was about herbal remedies, like Back florals that you can find at a Whole Foods Store, or even on E-Bay!! My friend Suzanne regularly used them on her yorkies when she was showing...I'll e-mail her to ask which is best, she knows a lot about the Bach Remedies, she's a "Bohemian Artist from NYC circa 1950's"!!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Here's one of the articles you were talking about...and it was some kind of Bach (sp?) flower remedies, alot of the cat sites carry them...

http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement101/a/introducecats.htm

Here is specific info for Bach pet remedies:

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Well, Rose, what's going on in your part of the world????

No brown shorts yet?????

Hurry up already.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

You know, Karen C, think you may be on to something. I can just see it now, she doesn't really notice him at all, just asks if he can step in so she can get his picture. As he steps into the door, she goes wow...! At the same time, he gets a better look at her and goes wow...!

In the meantime, the entire Fuzz Pack waits...and waits...and waits...

....but we're humming while we wait....

hummm....hummmm......hummmm...evil laugh...humming

It is now 4 pm, and I don't know WHERE my package is!!! It's like waiting for the cable guy! Geesh!
y'know ML and Karen, I like that thread you had goin' on...keep it up, 'cause it gave me an idea for a Harleqin book!!!

If that guy in brown makes me wait to be the LAST package before heading in, I'm gonna THROW the camera at him, nevermind take a picture!

AAAUUUGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Ricki said...

When we brought Charlotte home, Indigo chased her and beat her up (both are clawless, so I only had to worry about teeth)we talked to our vet about Indigo, and they put her on kitty valum...I would like to say that it helped...but different cats, different results. What is weird about Indigo, is she is fine if her and Charlotte are laying together with me, but if it is just Charlotte by herself, Indigo is a meanie. They still get into it now and again, and we have had Charlotte for almost 5 years. It may take some time for Cairo and Rosie to warm up to eachother, or it may never happen...but maybe she needs drugs...or nip.

Ricki said...

Kat, I just noticed the RIP by Bears name...that'll work.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Maybe Cairo is sick and not feeling well? Could that make her aggressive??? How about some kitty transquilizers, just temporarily??? It'd be worth a shot.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Or maybe he simple fact is that Cairo is a one cat kind of cat. The situation she came from may be the reason for the aggression.

Rose, hate to be the spoil sport, but happens if the guy in brown turns out to be a woman in brown? OH NO! Paper being thrown at me from all directions!!!! OUCH Kat, that one hurt! I was just saying!!!
LOL!!!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Hey, just checked Missy's blog, had to get another glimpse of KC, noticed a new post under Mo & the Catnip Garden, this from Maggie at Prairieland Herbs:

Hi! One of Mo's "slaves" here - Maggie from Prairieland Herbs. He says hi to all you lucky kittys and of course his Pal Missy. He has his own "stash" of fresh catnip right outside the front door...as long as I don't touch that, he lets me cut the rest of what is in the garden, hee hee. :) Anyhoo, anyone who places an order...just let us know you're a friend of Missy's and we'll send lots of extra goodies and samples! :) -maggie

Wow, and they send samples, let me tell you. Course, it makes sense, as you get "hooked" into using these excellent products. Don't mean to get carried away, but have had allergies to cosmetics, bath products, all my life. These are the first I can use and enjoy (there have been a few others, but they are not near as much fun!).

Oh Rose.....what's happening.....???

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Oh, Kim, go to your room right now!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Okay, it's 4:30 central (Houston) time, must be 5:30 eastern (NJ).
Surely it has been delivered by now????

And where the heck is Deb??? Maybe it has been delivered and they are talking on the phone about it???

We wanna know what's going on! Whine, whine, humming........!

Emma's Kat said...

Hi everyone! Just checking in quickly. We have family down or...over? It has totally left my mind, where my Uncle & Aunt are living now! That's terrible, but I'm so used to them living in Michigan! Anyway!

Kathleen - Everyone's giving some really good advice. I would try some of those options and see what happens. I hope you're feeling better!

Rose - Anxiously awaiting!

Deb - I need to talk to you about my dirty little secret for ML. I'll email you when I get a chance.

Kim - You are so silly! Lol! How dare you even think that way! And btw, that was Rose that nailed you, not me!! ;)

How????

The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...

***yawn***
Hi everybody...nope, no package...Just called Customer Service...MOST ANNOYING!!! Okay, so I STILL consider the "brownies" rivals...ahem...they're still #2!!
Asked the automated trk system for an agent and the one I get doesn't know the answer to "what's the commitment time for ground pkgs?"
I KNOW WHY!!! They're CLUELESS about COMMITMENT TIMES!! She gives me a manager, she confidently says "I'll be able to see better once I look it up". She verifies my address and says "yes, I see it's out for delivery and I see no issues that would prevent that" ok, I think, so I ask her what's the commitment time. She asked me if it's commercial or residential. SHE JUST READ MY ADDRESS OFF TO ME, did it SOUND like a commercial address???? I ask her again "Until what time is that truck staying out, and what time do they start heading back in?" They have until end-of-day to deliver packages and that is 11:59 pm, but generally residential deliveries are completed by 7:00p.
It's 6:11p I have to pee. Watch whoEver it is wearing brown shorts show up when I'm taking care of business, the creep! In case you want to go online to www.UPS.com and track, too the number is:
1Z 790 9E4 421691 0690. It'll bring up a screen that will tell you out for delivery, and you can see the "customer friendly" scans if you click on the little blue shaded link for "more detail". I don't know how quickly the POD is scanned in, but PROBABLY NOT AS FAST AS FEDEX!!. She said "Thank you for choosing UPS" and I couldn't help myself...I said back "Well, I didn't" and hung up!!
~~~~deep breath~~~~
I'll be rriigghht back...
The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...
real quick... 6:25p It's HERE!!
The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...
You Guys Are WAY too much!!! I'm not teasing! I had to wait to talk to Deb first, I'm sorry...
A Digital Camera!!! I am honestly stunned! I'm afraid of it, but I LOVE IT!!
I told Deb I don't know anyone who would make a gift like this to me..I mean, until NOW! I Love You, Deb! She self she had selfish motives - she wants lots of pictures! Since I lost my property, and my pretty decent 35mm camera my Dad gave me, pictures have been prohibitively expensive. I had one CVS toss-away camera when Emily was a kitten, and that was it.
Oh, there were 3 feathers that Emily took posession of immediately, so even before I opened the camera, I played with the cats for awhile. Emily loves the styrofoam peanuts that the package had inside-I call it ghost poop, from some movie I can't remember now. Emily loves ghost poop, too! She will generally reopen a box that has ghost poop in it to spread them ALL AROUND THE APARTMENT!! At one point, like Christmas, we're all sitting in the middle of ghost poop and feathers and camera instructions, and Brutus tries to get something that was in Emily's personal space. She smacked him, than went to bite him, but really didn't, I checked. If she bites, you know it-she bit me today! He would've yelped, instead he backed up way under my arm pouting. Emily's feeling a lot better since she had some time alone with me again. I sound conceited, but I feel guilty. Since I got the Young Royals, I THOUGHT I was including Emily everyday, but I was Her person, I guess, and she never guessed she would have to wait her turn for a lap she had exclusive rights to! I'm glad she's okay. I called her back up to the daybed, and she came running in spite of the kittens being there...it was like we were a family (oh, how soppy is that...)
Geez, they're trashing the joint!
Brutus only knows full throttle!
Emily's trying to take up as much space laying over everything...I DID take a picture! Not with the digital camera, yet! Gotta use up the last toss-away camera....;P
I'll be back in a minute...
The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...
I DO feel bad about K.C. I'm really sorry, I didn't keep y'all waiting on purpose. Really, I'd never reverse TT&T, that's mean...
OH ROSE, DEB!!! Darn, I'm crying now! I am just so happy for you both! Rose, you deserve good things my friend! Deb, you are such a giving person and I hope you know just how special you are! As for KC, we were just trying to make you feel bad. PLEASE don't feel bad!!! We know you would never do anything mean!!! Please don't beat yourself up about it.
New song to sing, "Oh happy day...!"
I know, I sound sappy, can't help it. I have such a GREAT online family!!!!
OH ROSE, was it a good looking guy in borwn?!
KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...
Yes, I'm so happy for you both, too.
Rose, you certainly do deserve good things and this is only the beginning!
Deb, what can I say. You do have the biggest heart around.
I also think the Fuzz Pack is the absolute best.
Hope to hear all about Rose's camera reaction.
PS: It was shameless of me to "use" the poor kitten that way, and I apologize, couldn't help myself.
KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...
You betcha!
You know, Rose mentioned under KC's post...about how "our kitties" only fly Continental. Wouldn't it be cool if "our kitties" could do a commercial for Continental.
Like ...Continental Airlines, for a flight so smooth it won't even disturb a tiny kitten...and then there would be Marigold & Brutus, or teeny KC...or who knows who else.
Anonymous said...
ML: What a great idea. We should submit it to Continental!
I'm still smiling about Rose!!!!
Great Day!!!!!!!
Oscar the Puppy Cat said...
You could put Simon in the commercial too. Looks like his new home if in Seattle!
Anonymous said...
Hi everyone! Wow, all of this excitement and I missed it. I tried several times to post at work, but nothing happened when I clicked on the link. Now that I am home, the pictures won't show up.
Rose--glad you finally got your surprise! Sorry the UPS guy kept you waiting. Did you know that their base of operations is right here in Louisville, KY. Your package came through my town! So was your delivery man cute?
I've lost track of who else is keeping secrets from whom, or even what those secrets are. So here is a little evil laughter for those being T,T & T. You know who you are (even if I don't)
MUAHAHAHAAHAH!
Thanks to everyone for all of the nice things you said about my Bear. The first picture was on Christmas. I always thought he looked a little bummed in that picture, like he is saying "What do you mean there aren't any more presents." In the begging picture, I think he was begging to go outside. That door opened to a balcony. I used to put his harness and leash on and take him out on the balcony. He loved to lay in the sun. I tried to walk him in the park, but he was always too scared and tried to hide between my feet. He only liked his little private outside area! That picture was taken in Germany. My landlords laughed and laughed at the crazy American girl that tried to walk her cat like it was a dog!
Karen C. & Deb--I saw KC's picture earlier today. She does look so scared. I'm glad you are able to rescue her.
KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...
Kim, what's this about Simon? Is that "allergy" cat?
Yeah, I was envisioning some of our lovely kitties, lying asleep and a plane flying in a darkened sky with stars twinkling...people nodding off in their seats...then back to the kitties and saying something like...our flights are so smooth they won't even ruffle a kitty's whiskers.
And especially since "our" cats endorse Continental.
Now, will you fill in some of the details of Rose's camera reaction? I am dying to hear them, after all this time and all this TT&T.
The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...
Ohmigosh!
Here I am again!
You know when you're waiting for someone, you put off doing certain things, convinced that once you start, BAM! there they are? I've been doing that all day, and I think the "TT&T Fairies" were having a little fun with all of us, too!
One of the trickiest thing to do with the babies is to pour my meds. I have a medication box that holds a 7 day portioned out supply of meds. I have 4 rx vitamin & mineral pills, Nexium, a med for lymphedema, one for nerve pain, one for musculoskeletal pain (sp? Dr Deb??!) 2 for panic/anxiety attacks 4 antidepressants/mood stabilizers and 2 thyroid replacement hormone pills. PLUS!! My Metabolic doc has me taking 2 centrum, 4 caltrate (double regular doses) Vit.A and E, and I choose to add Horse Chestnut because I heard it helps with edema, and I believe it has. So, thats, what? !!18 bottles??!! 18 bottles of pills to bat a paw at. I managed to put the fear of God into Emily when I poured my meds, so she just ignores me when I get the "lunch boxes" out, but Brutus leads the way in GETTING IN MY WAY!!! I don't want them injesting a single pill (had a few close calls with Emily when she was their age)...I poured tomorrow mornings' meds, and I'll give them another "time out" to do the rest tomorrow. Emily really seemed relaxed after today's time out.
I meant also to portion out leftovers to freeze, make jello, take a cab to the store (I would have been flirting with the ER if I tried to walk today-all those chemicals I swallow!) Actually, there are a few meds that warn me not to go out in hot weather, and today was awful-we're just not that accustomed to this kind of heat up here in Joisey!!
I played with the Royal Family with the feather toys that The Most Gracious Godmother Deb sent in the package, too! (oh, AND! The package had a name tag for each of the Royals-they are SOOO cute! Clove oil for my rotting teeth!
and I'm forgetting something...
oooh, a thunderstorm is coming up through here, my little weather alert bug just flashed to me...I can hear the thunder, but when I see lightening, I have to shut down...
ML, that was a good idea about the commercial for Continental! I can see that as a print ad in magazines, soooo cute! It WOULD be good promotion for their Animal Service, since when I was researching the airlines, they were the only one to NOT have a summer embergo.
Just saw lightening.. I'll be back in about 20 minutes?
TTFN!
See, I was right. Bear was begging to go outside.
Rose, so happy you finally got your deep dark secret. Have fun trying to figure it out. I'm still learning mine and I've had it for awhile. Hey, glad that Emily, Marigold and Brutus got in on the fun also.
Well, I can't believe that, two DLS's! Does that mean twice the triple T's???
I've got a DLS of my own and I think I'll tell someone. Who should I tell? I know one person I can't tell!
BTW, Karen S, certainly did enjoy looking at your Bear all day. Just too cute. Thanks so much for sharing him with us all.
Karen S.: Ditto ML's comment, thank you for sharing Bear with us!
Oh, Karen C, I had more fun talking to you about little KC. We must see pictures of her "new" persona.
Fuzz Pack, Karen C went back to visit little KC today, the second visit -- the first visit was Sunday. They've got KC marked like a "killer" to protect everyone (from a 2# 8 week old cat, yeah right). Anyway, I think KC remembered Karen, because Karen said she started sniffing and nuzzling...and her whole little adorable face lost all the fear and mistrust. Oh, I almost started crying.
I can't wait until Saturday!!!!
No, Deb, you are the ONE person I cannot tell!!!!
[evil laughter begins....]
Karen C: You are an angel. To go to the shelter, after working all day! K.C. remembered you and knew she was safe. OKAY: ML -- tearing up a lot here! Can't wait to get this little soul. Thank you so much Karen C. for K.C.!!
What are you talking about ML: You can tell me anything....we are best buds, remember....so just let it out....come on...tell me....don't make me whine!
Deb,Deb,Deb...give it up.
I'm so anxious to see and hear about little KC! I loved hearing about her and Karen's time together last night. This is just such a wonderful story, one for our record books. That's what we should have Rita write, a book of love and rescues!
