Abby

I adore all my cats, but the 4 that I have mentioned are not lap cats. They are affectionate in their own ways, but none of like to be in your lap. So, I set out to adopt a cat from a rescue group. I was looking for some specific things -- you'll probably laugh, but I wanted to find another girl kitty for my darling Boo(the tuxedo). I wanted her to be a tuxedo too, and I wanted her to be smallish like Boo around her age( all my cats are on the small side) and I wanted her to have a big fluffy tail. It took me several months of looking at beautiful cats and I nearly adopted another orange tabby, but thankfully I waited. The rescue group was really helpful and they would call and tell me when they had a Tuxedo ready to adopt. Finally, they said we think we have a match for you. They said she was only 5 pounds and that she was 5 years old( she was one month from turning 6) and a virtually LAP cat. When I arrived at PetsMart I could see her in her little igloo bed and I about fainted because she was nearly identical to Boo. When they handed her to me she clung to my shoulder and it was love at first sight. Her name is Abby and she is the love of my life. Abby and I have struggled through her issues but the bond we have now is as strong as anything on this earth. By the way....that fluffy tail I was looking for -- out the window. Abby is a Manx, she has absolutely NO tail, but a little puff of fur. She is tiny compared to our cats and unquestionably she is a LAP cat. But she may be tiny in stature but she is a lion in personality. She is the alpha cat in our house and she runs it with an iron paw. She has become totally devoted to me( and I to her) and I can't imagine being without her. -Debra @ Manx Mnews

Good Morning ALL my fuzz sisters! May we have a peaceful week.

Abby is just adorable. She is a lovely little Tuxedo girl.

I can identify with the "iron paw." Our sweet Hester, at 8 lbs, ruled the house, the bigger boys and Shep the Dog, all without leaving her footstool. It was her Throne, and ALL, especially The Dog, bowed before her.

Abby is a beautiful girl. In the picture where she is grooming, she looks a lot like Mrs.B, even the pose. It looks like she is putting up a paw to ask a question. :-)

Hi Jan! I was just thinking about you yesterday. Wondering how you were doing as we hadn't heard from you in a few. So, how are you and the fuzz fam?

Morning all, Abby what cute girl you are! I didn't know there was a cat breed with no tail! I just heard about it when I got my latest cat fancy issue. They're spotlighting the Manx this month. Debra I'd love to know where you got that scracther from, I need one like that for my kitties. I bought the flat one, but Fitz doesn't care for it. He prefers to try to scratch on the sofa and my mom says he has one more time to scratch her sofa so I have to find something. LOL
I have a question for those of you doing the 9/11 tribute, where did you get the picture for your blog, and how did you find information on your person? I just signed up over the weekend and so far have only been able to find basic info on my person.

Click on the picture and it will bring you to a web site and write the guy an email.

Abby is so pretty!!! She sounds like a true Queen, all hail Abby! She looks so soft and cuddly!

Okay, that's KC typing above.

Abby is so sweet. What a little doll she is. I'll be she is an absolute joy.

I can really relate to your story, Debra, since I have the aloof "look but don't touch" Missy Blue Eyes. Now that tiny KC has joined us, she is a little snuggle & purr bug, it is a wonderful thing.

If anyone is interested in the 9/11 tribute and finding out more about their hero, you can just Google the person's name and then "9/11" and that will usually do it. There are lots of archives to go through. If anyone needs any help, just let me know.

Thanks Danielle, ML. I didn't notice that the button/banners were posted on the site under the faq page. I'll have to try to search when I get home to find some information on him.

It sure does look like that Abby was worth waiting for. Enjoyed the story on how she became the right kitty for you.

Can't post on Casper's site yesterday or today. At the bottom it says Error on page and that's as far as I get. I do want to Thank all that has stopped by and visited Casper's site even if he isn't the feature of the day. We really appreciate it. I try to get to the other sites as well as I really like to see all the other kitties and how they are doing. It's fun.

Jan, I see two of your favorite drivers came in the top ten yesterday in the race. Yea!!! Even Dale Jr. made it in the top ten too.

Abby so glad you turned out to be what Momma wanted a lap cat. So cuddly and loving.

Rosie (who else) you are still in top form.

Hello efurryone!

Oh my darling baby Abby is here today. Thank you Kat. She is the love of my life. I am totally at her mercy. How could a small ball of fur possess someone? But she has. Thankfully so. It's funny because I think we both needed to find the other. It has worked out well for both of us. Now the other four kitties in the household might disagree a little because Abby does not allow them much leeway. If she thinks they are coming anywhere near me she is off to 'protect' me. It's amusing to watch this cat half the size of the others boss everyone else around.

She is loyal, devoted and very loving but only to me. She even protects me from my husband!

Sorry I haven't been posting, but I have been lurking. It's been a busy two weeks. I delivered Mother to my brother down on the south coast of Oregon, drove 800 miles, knit 2 pairs of socks for the next KNITPICKS catalog (www.knitpics.com), spent two hot days at the county fair, bought a goat(for meat, not to keep), spent 2 hot days next door for our Farm Tour(www.countrycharmtour.com), and I'm ready for a day or two off!

For those involved, PLEASE, back off, take a few deep breaths, sit down and think about the hurtful things that have been flying around. We are about fellowship and cat rescueing, not catfighting amongst ourselves. We all have different abilities, different tolerence levels, and different senses of humor. Think a little about what this is doing to the rest of us. We love you all, and don't want ANYONE to leave the group.

hi everyone,

didn't plan to post, but I wanted to let you all know I never meant anyone to feel 'in the middle' of anything. Since there can't be a middle without 2 sides, I'm removing myself from what has been determined to be "my side", therefore, there can't be a middle anymore! I have been brought up to offer apologies, and whomever I upset by hostile comments I posted, I am truly sorry for.

As I advised Kat, I feel it best to remove myself from this community from here on out. No hostilities to anyone intended, please do believe that. I am very embarassed and uncomfortable here, and without feeling safe, I won't be able to post comments any longer.
wishing the best to all of you and related felines/canines and assorted creatures...

Abby, you are just scrumptious!!! What a wonderful girl, and I do believe you're totally LOVED! Good for you! Debra, are you sure she is a Manx? How much of a tail does she have? Our Mylo is a Japanese bobtail...www.cathappy.com/mylo.htm

It is interesting to compare the breeds, i.e., Manx, American bobtail and Japanese bobtail - there are many sites online...all the tails are different! Mylo's is only about 2" long...this morning Jasmine scared him and made it puff up - he looked like a rabbit (of course, bobtails have longer legs in back anyway, which gives them a bit of a rabbit walk!

I would love to add Abby to our Black and White Kitties page - www.cathappy.com/b&w.htm

Please email me a pic and a little introduction!!! bdubois@houston.rr.com

Oh, and thanks again everyone for sharing the foster kits - I moved Sunny and Savannah in with Torti and Cosmos today...so far so good. There is still a hope that Cosmos has a home, but nothing firm yet. So many needing homes out there, as you all know so well.

.....ahem.....how about both of you stay and put this episode behind you as we all should try to do..life is about learning and experiences both good and bad and we should all move foreward..It would be severe and very unfortunate if either of you were to leave...schnoort......

wish me luck in my operation! =^^=

caspersmom said...

I agree with Rosie, both of you stay. I for one want both of you here. So what if there was an explosion that shouldn't have happened. Let the dust settle and lets get on why we are here for, the love of our pets.

Kathleen I am so glad you found a place for Cairo. I would have done the same thing if one of my cats was intimidating another one so severly they couldn't eat or use the port-o-potty. You didn't give up on Cairo, you found another forever home where she could be loved for herself. And what is neat about it you can visit her anytime you want to.

God bless you both for aplogizing.

.....Momma Liptits 'speaking words of wisdom, let it be'...........

Yes, that is a possibility. The idea of re-introducing them after Rosie is comfortable once again for a considerable period of time is a good one...forgot who suggested it! Ironically, I got a newsletter on Thursday from About.com Cats Guide that included an article regarding the topic "When Housemates Fight". It's a nice newsletter withinteresting links, if anyone wants to check it out.
I'm just glad Cairo is safe and RtheR can relax with you now.

Madness, Trouble, Squish and Milkbone said...

For the consideration of the LT and FB specialists (Caspersmom and Rosie) I direct you to Kismet. I say liptits, but I await your decision.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I tried to find the link and it's not coming straight up...dunno why...you may have to go to About.com first, then choose Cats Guide. If that fails, I can forward the e-mail to you. The article did mention it may take several months before you should try to re-introduce them. In the meantile, Rosie is better off without the stress in her life, because to any creature, stress can cause illness. Kitty Ulcers??
Maybe!

Deb! Attacked your family?! uh-oh...not wise. Everyone here must realise you, with Karen C., ARE the backbone of FFCA, and did NOT warrant a personal attack. I'm so proud to be your friend-"adopted Sister"-
and I'm proud to have Brutus and Marigold, they bring me such joy and a lot of laughs! I'm going to start writing again, like you've been encouraging me to! One story at a time, and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you, my editor-in-friend! And ML can teach me how to find my way around Word so the stories look good, too! (::heh-heh::) Still MORE work for ML! Hope KC's feeling better soon...all that excitement of her first hunt! I just remembered, I've forgotten to eat today...(remember I've forgotten? Deb, HELP NEEDED already!)

I really debated on saying anything, but I feel a need. I just want to say that Deb, you should choose your words wisely. I don't want and it is not my intention to heat things up, but I have read the emails Rosie sent to your attack on her. And the 2nd one sent from your reply. They were not vicious or attacking your family. I just want others to know this. Deb again, I'm sorry you feel the way you do and I hope you can just read this and move on w/out a comment. ??? :(

Good Morning! Loa, are you awake? I'm just getting ready to wake Sean so that I can get him ready for school. His bus comes a little ealier this year. I take Duncan, and today, Casey, to school. Today is Casey's first day of Preschool! My baby girl is growing up! She's only going two half days a week but I'm still teary-eyed! She's excited though and that is a big plus. Let's hope she stays excited after her first day. Last year Duncan was the same way and after his first week he didn't want to go anymore. He hated being away from Mommy!

Meowmepurr's Mumma said...

What an exciting day for Miss Casey! I hope she has a good time and enjoys school.

I'm so glad you're back, we missed you, girlfriend. How are things in N.O.? It is one of the wonderful cities I have yet to visit. When I was younger I always wanted to be there for Mardi Gras. Now, I don't think so. I'm a lot older and more cautious, and it seems that the celebration has gotten rowdier and more dangerous. I still want to see the beautiful city.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Hi Mumma! I have a few seconds before SEan's bus gets here. You're up early!

New Orleans is no longer the city it once was. It breaks my heart into a million pieces. The crime has gotten so out of control! I didn't visit the French Quarter while I was home this last time. The pride we all felt is gone. I hope that it will one day be the grand city it once was.

Mardi Gras is a blast! It is a place I wouldn't hesitate to take my children. The things that you see on tv or read about are the rowdy areas, the areas that happen to be either residents of the French Quarter or the tourists. Locals rarely go into the quarter for Mardi Gras. SO, if you ever decide that you want to go, let me know and I will make arragements for you and you'll have a great time!

See you on today's post!

...Cecilia....Kismet has already been considered and discussed at great length...he has FB's not LT's.....the reason being is that although they are humungous, they are not falling 'forward' enough (like the Captains') to be LT's....duzzaduzz..........
