it had been a long time since we had a boy cat in our house. our family has missed having boys around the house. boy kitties act differently than girls. all of my boys crossed to the bridge during the course of 2 years or so. the first was cheebie, our alpha male, he died of liver disease after living a long life. then mako, our big 17 lb loverboy, died of squamous cell carcinoma. he was still in his prime. never stood a chance against such an evil. then rex, our sweet gentle woofie passed away from old age. his body was tired from years of having seizures that took his sight and hearing from him. my husband had said we have too many pets and that we needed to have only two pets in our house. he said this when we had 4 cats and 1 dog. after losing all of our boys, we had only our two girl kittys yuki and kimiko. but after so long with no boys, i told him i was ready for another special boy cat. Christmas was coming and i told him that is what i wanted as my present from him. how could he say no, right?!?! ginger kitties always seem so laid back. i just knew that one would be a good personality match for our family - especially my husband. hubby couldn't understand why i didn't get one from the local shelter. so i took him (after i had already been there once) and showed him what was there. nothing "clicked".
i found JJ on the petfinder website (http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9171686). he is an american bobtail (probably mixed with something - not sure what). with the cutest little nub of a tail. he was in a shelter near atlanta, georgia which is 4 hours from our home. so i showed JJ to him and he just sighed and said okay and asked when and how are you going to get him. he couldn't say anything about the distance since he had traveled to mid-tennessee to buy a car. i applied to adopt JJ and was approved! my mom rode with me to pick him up. i wanted to keep the tradition of japanese names so JJ became kintaro on the way home from georgia.

kintaro is sooooooooo nosy! he has to know everything everyone is doing. his little nub of a tail is expressive beyond belief. when he plays it moves faster than a puppys tail. his favorite toy is anything with FEVVERS!!!!!! my two girls still don't get along with him as he is a pesky little brother. i guess 11 + years difference is good reason not to want to change their habits of QUIET naps and not having to share anything. hubby says he is "special" just like all of our other kitties. he says i have a way of bringing home cats with either physical or mental problems. he thinks kintaro is a bit krazy. lol kintaro has brought so much joy and laughter to our home with all of his krazy antics. -Shirley a.k.a. momsbusy

Xavier (RIP)

Unfortunately, Xavier left us last September. However, he loved to soak up sun rays, eat house and outdoor plants, and roll around in catnip or anything that smelled like carrots (yes, carrots!)." He was definitely one of the family and truly missed. We are almost ready for a new Kitty or maybe 2 but Xavier will never be replaced and will be in our hearts forever. -Terri E.

Higgins

Higgins was born in March of 2005, behind a K-Mart. The rescue group scooped up his whole litter, and they've all been adopted except poor Higgins. During the week he lives with lots of other fosters in a real home. He likes to jump onto his Foster Mommy's chest and shoulders and give her purry love. He also sleeps curled up with her. I don't see how she can part with him, after having him for almost 3 years, but that's her job. She has to find homes for the ones she has so she can rescue more. On weekends, Higgins is in a cage at PetSmart. That's where I get to visit him. He's SO soft, and very tall, but not fat like Grr. He looks like a Grr/Cocoa combo with Midnight's eyes and a fluffier tail. Plus those fangs, of course. He's so sweet and loves to be petted. Sammy is a cute orangie that we adopted after our beloved Hootie suddenly went to the bridge in 2005. We knew we had to have another kitty and wanted an opposite to Hootie. Sammy LOVES to climb to high places, is our alarm clock, and greets visitors when they come to the door. He DEMANDS to have the front door open every morning to observe his realm. He has been know to get the geckos that get into our house. He is a joy to live with and we love him very much. Now he has a new brofur, Oliver, and he loves him too! -Helen B.

IT SEEMS AS IF HE MAY HAVE BEEN ABUSED OR HIT BY A CAR. WE LOOKED HIM OVER AND HE WAS MOSTLY CLEAN. NO BITES OR OPEN SORES TO SPEAK OFF, SO WE BROUGHT HIM HOME IN HOPES OF NURSING HIM BACK TO HEALTH. WE HAD HIM FOR 2 DAYS AND NOTICED SOME IMPROVEMENT. STILL HE WOULD NOT WALK ON HIS FRONT LEFT PAW. WE ARE VERY LOW INCOME SO WE CALLED AROUND AND TRIED TO GET DONATIONS FOR HIS X-RAYS AND SO ON. WELL IT SEEMS WE HAVE HIT A BRICK WALL. WE GOT SOME HELP FROM V.S.A FOR HIS X-RAYS, WHICH SHOW HE HAS A BROKEN ELBOW, BUT NOW HE WILL NEED SURGERY AND KNOW NO ONE WILL HELP US. This is my other porch cat, Wraith. (My porch cat Smudge was Cat of the Day recently.) Wraith, along with five other young cats, appeared suddenly in my neighborhood last summer. They all seemed to know each other and all were about the same age. We think someone dumped them. One was killed on the road and four have been take in by people in the neighborhood, leaving Smudge and Wraith still homeless. Smudge seems to have recently found a home, too. I rarely see him any more but twice in the past week he has come over when he saw me at the mail box and followed me home. He's apparently just being sociable, though, since he sniffs the dry food I offer, then haughtily declines it, and he's fat and sleek. Wraith, however, remains skittish and unapproachable. I call him Wraith both for his light smoky grey coat that makes him almost invisible against the color of the pavement and stone walls and concrete sidewalks and early morning fog, and for his will-of-the-wisp way of hanging back and ducking out of sight if you look directly at him. I've tried to tame him so I can take him in to the veterinary clinic where I work and get him neutered and vaccinated and have any problems such as fleas, worms, or eat mites taken care of, and perhaps find him a home. He's too shy and wary, though. Occasionally I can give him one stroke on the head, and that is all. Every time I see Wraith I know it may be the last time. We have coyotes in this area, and I'm afraid that sooner or later, one will get Wraith. It's so sad. He could have been someone's beloved pet. -Kay in Oregon

Gandalf is always talking, grunting, humming or purring. When he can't find me he roams the house calling me, loudly. He is a 3 1/2 year old DSH although except for not having green eyes he looks a lot like a Russian Blue. He is a very social cat, perhaps a bit bashful for a few moments, then he's in your lap as though you are old friends. Gandalf loves his best buddy Grayson. They sleep together like furry gray apostrophes. Where one is, so is the other. He also loves to help his Grampy work in the yard. It gives him many Purrfect Adventures with the many squirrels, lizards, birdies and froggies.

Marigold

Marigold is Brutus' kid sister. She was the runt of the litter, and very nearly didn't survive. She has a "break" at the very tip of her tail, that reminds me of a crochet hook! She resembles her two brothers, Ruse and Audace, who live in Texas with her Momma Grace and Marilynn Smith. She weighs in at just under 7 pounds, but loves her Tem-Tay-Shuns (chicken, if you please). I consider her rather "emo", being as she is quite shy and withdrawn at times. I imagine her using my discman and listening to The Used, Thursday and My Chemical Romance when I'm not looking. (I'm sure if she had thumbs, she'd be using my eyeliner, too...) Her favorite playtime is about 10:00 at night. She begins to stalk her brother and pick a fight. Sometimes he's up to it, but when he's not, "poor little emo girl" comes to momma for a cuddle. She will ALWAYS be my "baby" girl. -emilyRose

Brutus

Brutus is one of 4 offspring of the gentle Momma Grace and sibling to his 2 brothers Ruse and Audace, who live with their mum Marilynn Smith in Texas. Brutus has a kid sister named Marigold, and a stepsister, Emily. On or about April 15th, Brutus will be (*GASP!*) 2 years old! In people years, that's 24. Okay, that suits him, since he does act like an extra from "Animal House"...he's grown to be nearly 16 pounds, and LOVES people, with the exception of Dr. Goldsmith, the best darn V-E-T in New Jersey! Brutus has allergies that give him bronchial spasms, and he needs the occasional shot and to be pilled once weekly. He's my backup Fuzz-Alarm. As soon as my alarm CD starts playing in the morning, he starts, eh, singing along? Thus insuring his morning Stinky Goodness. The most endearing habit of his is "Playing Baby". When he feels he needs a cuddle, he'll insist on flopping into my arms, head nestled in the crook of my right elbow, and turned towards me just like a baby! -emilyRose

Annie & Thisbe

Annie came to us from Buddy Dog Shelter in Sudbury, MA. She knew right away she wanted to be "our" cat. She's very social and likes to parade before company, expecting petting and admiration. Before we moved, she made the rounds of our neighborhood, accepting treats and accolades. We were worried that she might be lonesome when we were out of town, so we got Thisbe from a friend's litter. Annie was outraged, and wouldn't look at me for six months. They are still not exactly friends, but they tolerate each other and chase around the house at a sedate pace. Thisbe is shy, and races under the bed when anyone outside the family comes to call. Annie is very attached to my husband and snuggles up to him when he naps or watches TV. Thisbe is more attached to me and sleeps by my feet every night. She loves to sit in the kitchen window and watch birds, chipmunks and squirrels. Both cats are tubby, and a diet of "Atkins for kitties" has only added to their girth. They are both indoor cats now, and live spoiled but happy lives. -Judy C.

This is a case of a kitten having kittens. A nice couple adopted Susy and her brother from a box of kittens being given away outside a grocery store when they were about six weeks old. They were going to have her spayed and her brother neutered but had heard that that should be done when kittens are about six months old. This little girl was brought to the veterinary hospital where I work because the owners thought she was constipated. Actually, she was in labor with kittens she couldn't deliver because her pelvis was too small and immature. She was less than six months old and since she had never been outside the house, the father had to be her brother. We did an emergency C-section and saved three of the kittens, though it was very difficult to resuscitate the little calico female. The poor mother, just a kitten herself, woke up to find these strange little things trying to snuggle up to her. She didn't know what they were or what to do with them, and she had no milk. Things were touch-and-go for a day, then her milk came in and she figured out that these were kittens and they were hers, and she turned into an excellent doting mother. All three kittens have good homes -- the vet tech who worked so hard to get the calico to breathe adopted her. The mama was spayed at the C-section, and her brother has been neutered. -Kay in Oregon

This is my Manx, Zoe. She is one of the "ferret in a cat suit" Manx, always into something or up to something. Those big green eyes are ever alert for a new place to get on top of or into, and she never misses a thing. She will stare at one of the other cats till that cat feels those eyes on it, hisses and leaves in a huff, then Zoe takes over the coveted spot in the sun or the catnip mouse or whatever it was the other cat had and she wanted, with this expression of pure innocence. She runs to meet me at the front door, follows me from room to room all day, and sleeps with me every night. The vet I work for says Zoe looks like a purebred, and with her beautiful markings and classic Manx conformation, she might have been a show cat. A friend of my daughter found her on a country road in Washington state, skin and bones, trying to eat road-kill that was so old it was petrified. She had been nursing kittens but her milk was drying up, so they had probably died a week or so earlier. The woman went back to look for the kittens, but despite a long search, she never found a trace of them. Possibly predators got the litter. I wonder how a gorgeous cat like Zoe ended up out there miles from any house. She is a joy and royal pain, simultaneously, with enough personality for several cats. -Kay in Oregon

Lullaby & family

First I will have to tell you that I am the cat whisperer... hehe. Truth. I have had the pleasure of being adopted by many, most of whom showed up at my door. That is how Lullaby became family. She started showing up on my entry porch rail and she would sit there just like in that picture and put her paws together over and over as if begging to be let in. I know now that she is really catching angels as she does this regularly (and she caught me..hehe). Now, having 3 males already, and knowing females and males living together can be a recipe for turmoil, I heart wrenchingly resisted..... for 2 or 3 days. She was a bit of a tomboy surviving outside, and persistent, she wanted in. Her new brothers, Hobbes, Mo, and Stretch (pics below), accepted her and now I believe that Mo and Lullaby are siblings. They are both approx 4 yrs old and have very similar markings and Mo came about a year earlier by way of a little girl at the same door saying Mr please help this tiny sick little kitten...... Lullaby has the sweetest voice and is very gentle hearted. She is a bit chubby these days but the boys keep her fit enough, they seem to have a daily chase her up the cabinets ritual. Man can she jump! Her new baby brother Bronco, who is the most amazingly loving cat I have known, keeps her on her toes. Hobbes passed 2 Christmas' ago, Stretch passed last year, both at age 12 both with kidney failure. I suspect the canned food I used to give them as a weekly treat. Bronco arrived in a boxful of kittens at work. One look and he was coming home with me. Lullaby sleeps in bed at my foot. Mo and Bronco sleep on either side of my pillow, Bronco's head just has to sleep on the pillow too just like daddy....and purrs... loudest purr ever. Mo has an extra toe on all four paws and with his headmark I named him Chief Mo Toe. He is very sensitive, has some abandonment and jealousy issues, and is scared to death of the vacuum. Bronco's arrival has brought him back from a deep grief over losing his best friend from when he was tiny, Hobbes. Mo and Bronco playfight every day now and he seems almost happy again. But Lullaby.. she is my baby girl... she is always near...smiles. Cats rule! -Mikey

This handsome fellow is Bean. When his owner travels, he boards with us at the veterinary hospital where I work. There is a lot of Bean to love -- he is a Maine Coon Cat and weighs about 24 pounds. He's too big and heavy for his petite owner to transport him in a carrier, so he wears a harness and proudly walks in on a leash. Bean loves to be groomed. He comes equipped with a brush, which we place in a basket on the door of his cage, and several times a day one of the staff gives him a nice brushing. After you do his back and his beautiful ruff, he rolls over and waves his feet in the air, purring like a diesel engine to get his white underbelly coiffed. Everyone loves Bean and we all look forward to his visits. -Kay in Oregon

This is Smudge. Last year, several cats about six months old suddenly turned up in our neighborhood. They all seemed to know each other. We suspect that they were all dumped by the same person. Three have been taken into neighborhood homes, one was killed by a car, and two, including Smudge, are still fending for themselves. I have almost gotten Smudge tame enough for me to be able to get him into a carrier so I can take him to the veterinary hospital where I work. We will neuter and vaccinate him, deworm him, and attend to any flea and ear mite issues he may have and any dental problems, then put him up for adoption. We usually have one or two cats for adoption at the clinic at all times. We have found new homes for 26 cats in the past four years. Smudge is a big sweetie, not to mention handsome, so I'm sure he'll get a loving new home. -Kay in Oregon

This is Sheba. She is a 12-year-old Himalayan. After the unexpected death of my son's cat, Ozzy, I was looking in the newspaper on Labor Day, 1998, and saw the ad from the breeder who owned her that she was up for adoption, so I called and went to see her. The breeder had purchased her from the top Himalayan cattery in the country. She is very small for a Persian, not even 6 lbs! Both her litters had to be delivered by C-section, so the breeder spayed her and was planning to keep her, but the other females didn't like her, so she was giving her up. I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her! She was very shy. As soon as I took her home, she hid under the recliner in the living room. I put her food, water & litter next to the chair, hoping she would eventually come out. A couple of days later when I looked under the chair she was gone. My son & I looked all over for her with no luck--I was beginning to panic. We kept calling her name until finally my son heard her meow in answer. She had gotten into his dresser in the space behind a drawer! He had to take the dresser apart to get her out. She finally adjusted and now follows me around everywhere and sits on my lap every night. -Barbara

She had been declawed on all toes front and back and I cannot imagine how she survived being lost. When I saw her she was very scared and scrawny. She had been at the humane society about 4 months. Mom fosters momma cats and der kits and sometimes motherless kittens. The last momma cat we had here was turned in to da shelter because she gots out of her house and got pregnant and da beans dat had her wanted to breed her to a purebred. Can yoo believe dey wanted to know if dey could haf her back after she had kittens! She was beyootiful, but not a purebred herself and deze beans thawt dey could keep breeding her and make money off her babies! Dey is now on da "do not adopt to" list at all da local shelters. Anyway, in her litter was dis silly little ginger guy dat dad got attached to, he was a little clown. He slept in da kitty litter, sometimes when it wasn't exactly clean and would attach himsef to Speedy's tail and ride around da foster kitties room! Mom sez der is enuff with us three so she gave him back to da shelter when he was all weened and stuff. Den, she was talking to some ladies at church one Sunday about of all things, cats! One lady dat knew mom fostered started talking about a kitten dat she adopted about two days after mom turned in our fosters. Da background she got from da shelter fit da little orinch kitties story, so mom being da nut job she is called da shelter and dey said he was adopted two days after she brawt him back in and wahla...mom actually found one of her foster kittens in his furever home! His name is Henry or Hank to his frends. He lives wif another ginger brother and a little woofie he loves. He recently gots his hoohaectomy and had a bad reaction to da anesthetic (dat is a big wore) but after a night at da vet's he was fine and is now home terrorizing, er, playing wif his cat and woofie brofurs. -Zippy, Sadie and Speedy

This is Hyway. He got that name because we found him along side of the highway where someone had thrown him out in a bag. I saw him and turned around and picked him up. The first time I saw this beautiful girl was back in early December 2006. According to local "legend", she was an indoor cat until the tenant moved out, leaving her locked in the apartment. After that, she was on the streets. She is about 1-2 years old.She is a larger cat, very long luxurious fur, beautifully and vividly marked. When you pick her up, she is floppy and snuggly. She is a very mellow cat, calm and quiet. She purrs a lot and enjoys being close to you. She follows me everywhere, quietly, just to sit near my chair or whatever. She is also very poised, walking and sitting like a show cat. Very good catitude.She was groomed when they treated her for a mammary infection from nursing her new kittens (4 weeks old), an upper respiratory infection, and an eye infection. They thought she had a heart defect, but a sonogram showed it to be the harmless type. Whoever adopts her can have all these papers so they don't need to have these expensive tests run again.She had a litter of kittens a few weeks before Dinah had the Mites. They are absolutely gorgeous. Then, after Dinah had the Mites, Momma Tortie had a second litter: Baby Tortie, Baby Tuxie and Baby Socks, who are also looking for homes. They are now 4-5 weeks old.We are in the far west Houston Texas area, beside Katy and Sugarland, and looking for a home for this gorgeous girl. Hello, I'd like to introduce Finnegan the joyful cat. He came into our lives three years ago. My elderly dad's longtime cat companion had recently crossed the bridge and we desperately needed another furry companion to help keep the sadness at bay. Little did we suspect the bundle of energy and merriment that was about to come into our lives via a local shelter! The very second I sat down this little tornado of a cat landed in my lap. One look at that face was enough...he had found his home and we found healing through laughter. Finnegan has had us in stitches ever since.

You can't help but smile at his wonderfully expressive face and playful nature. As you can see in the second photo, he even comes equipped with his own clown feet. He's an 'extreme' polydactyl, having extra toes on both front and back paws. I often think of Finnegan as a 'Peter Pan' cat, never losing his kitten-like energy and sweetness. We are so grateful to have him in our lives, he brings us joy every day. -Rae

This is Snow. She was a feral cat that had her babies in the engine compartment of my pickup. When I found them, I placed them in a cat carrier and when she went in to investigate, I shut the door and moved them all into the house. After I found homes for the babies I had her spayed and planned to put her back outside, but she had other ideas. She wouldn't stay outside, so I finally gave up and let her stay on the back porch, until Bandito (Kat of the Day-May 2006) decided he wanted her in the house. As you can see, they are real close. So here she is today. This picture was taken on December 1st, Snow's 4th birthday. I don't know what I would do without her. -Becky P

This is Jazz who I fostered for the humane society. He had a leg/hip injury and after surgery they needed a place for him to recover and do PT. I named him Jazz because of his perfect Jazz Dot on his chin. He was a fun kitten with a great personality and the most striking eyes I have ever seen. I found that the best way to get him to do his exercises for his leg, was to slowly move a laser dot up and down stairs and up a wall. The hardest thing, once he started to heal, was to keep him from going too fast. I am sure he found a wonderful home - he was hard to resist. -Margaret L.

This is Jerry Bear, sister to Rumplekins. When Jerry Bear was little she was quite adventurous. High jumping was her favourite sport. She jumped too high and hurt her back leg. When I brought her to the shelter vet they weren't sure if they were going to pay for any damage she had done. I opted then and there that I would take her whatever the problem. He is a dog and he is 11 years old. He doesn't like to play much with me but I keep trying. Mommy, Daddy and Grandpa spoil me rotten. Grandpa loves to pinch my ears and sneak behind mommy's back and feeds me extra treats but we won't tell her. Daddy he works really hard driving something called a rock truck I don't know what that means but he works hard at it. And mommy she loves on me all the time huggin and kissin and telling me she loves me very very much. When I'm not napping,eating or being loved on I love to catch my brother turned away from me so I can sneak up behind him and smack him on the backside with my claws out the I run really hard and hide. He get really mad but I just hide and laugh alot. I also like to go outside but that scares my mommy she is afraid something bad will happen to me so she got me a cage to sit in on the porch so I can watch the birdies. I sure do love my family. My name is Isis. I am a shop kitty at The Wren's Nest in Michigan, along with Jazper. He's been here a long time - a whole year, but I've just been around for a little while now. He is surprisingly patient with me, considering I love to rough & tumble it with him, but he loves me, I think, because he lets me cuddle and he even washes out my ears. My beans say I am full of "spit and vinegar" and I LOVE to run and run, and play and play. I especially love jingle bells, and if you shake my jingle bell wand, I'll come running to play! When they found me, I was just a starving tiny flea-ridden alley cat, but they say I cleaned up pretty good. I am very grateful for the chance to be the Official Greeter at the store - if I'm not sleeping, I must make sure to welcome every single person who comes in! Even when the store isn't open, I stay in the display windows and entertain the people on the sidewalk, and torment their little doggies, too! This is Taz. I rescued her from a neighbor down my road. I hadn't intended on getting a new kitten as I was still moving into my house. But when my neighbor said they were going to kill Taz and her siblings, I couldn't leave without one. So, I pulled Taz out of the rabbit cage they were in and took her home. Taz got her name because she would do circles on my bed like a Tazmanian Devil. She was born and rescued in 1998, so she is now 9 yrs. old. She is a mess, as she thinks she is half dog, half human. This is Artist. Artist is a couple of years old. I used to do cat rescue which involved trapping and taming feral cats. Most cats or kittens I could do within weeks. Artist was one of those but she took 9 weeks to tame!! I would cry out of frustration but finally one day she reached out her paw and touched my pinkie. Then I cried too. Although she won't let anyone else come near her, she is the most loving cat to me. She's so playful and we have games we play... for instance when I'm brushing my teeth in the bathroom, she jumps in the tub and we play through the shower curtain. I reach my hand through the curtain and she'll attack. She was named Artist because no matter how many toys I bought her, she only wanted to play with my paintbrushes. One morning I found 9 of them on the steps! Artist is so dear to my heart. She's the biggest love. -Kathy W.

This is Mrs. OZ, Mrs. Hissy OhneZahn. She came to us - as Rita - a couple of weeks after Anastasia vanished because she was in need of a different home than she lived in and with Anastasia gone we could take another cat in. Anastasia would have made minced meat out of any cat trying to come here... I think the staff thought she could be a companion for me because I felt very lonely without my Anastasia but Mrs. OZ is not a companion cat! The first week she stayed in the space in the ceiling (the staff occupies a VERY old house) and when she encountered me she just hissed. I did not hiss back, I have manners! When she started to spend a bit more time outside the ceiling Emil arrived. Back into the ceiling for another week! And she kept hissing and hissing. At both of us. Hence "Hissy". She also does not have upper canines, we do not know what happened, only that she came like that from the Humane Society many years ago. Hence "OhneZahn" which is German and literally translates "WithoutTooth". She is a very particular cat. She likes to stay by herself and she does not go outside, only to the bottom of the stairs. She does manage to catch little insects there and brings them inside, CRYING loudly for acknowledgment of her superior hunting skills! Emil adores her and does not stop trying to play with her. She does not stop hissing at him. It's a weird relationship! When he comes in (Mrs. OZ mainly stays in the maids place upstairs, Emil mostly sleeps at the butler's place downstairs and comes up in the morning) Mrs. OZ first runs up into the ceiling, just to come back down again almost immediately and approach him until he starts trying to play with her which then makes her able to hiss at him.... I keep out of it!!!! She's a weird one! -Karl

This is Little One. She came to us via a friend that found her outside her house being picked on my her toms. She knows that I love cats of all kinds and so she called me and then brought her to me. This was the day be for Thanksgiving 2004. She was so sweet but had to go to the vet as she had a gash on one of her front legs, and while she was there they spay her and gave her all her shots. She was with us up until October 17th of this year. She had developed a tumor in her abdomen and we were unable to save her. She crossed to the Rainbow Bridge, and she is greatly missed. -Becky P.

Sandy came into my parents life when my dad had to stop at the gas station on base. Another customer had found a kitten that had been dropped off at the gas station. Her husband said "NO!" she could not have another cat so my dad brought Sandy home. He was just a little thing but quickly grew into a big boy. These photos were taken a year ago. Since then, Sandy has finished filling out and is a solid, almost stocky fella. He loves to beg for food. He especially loves to try to eat almost any vegetable my mom has in the kitchen. If it isn't edible then it can be played with throughout the house. His favorite treats are feline greenies. He rarely meows except when you tell him no repeatedly about something he wants. Then in his best little voice (he has a quiet voice) he will meow his disagreement with your decision. He has become best friends with Meme. -Shirley

Rumplekins

Rumplekins is the original kitten from a foster litter that I was going to keep. She was the runt and we were worried about her for a while. She seemed to be developmentally behind the other kittens. WE didn't need to worry though as she soon caught up and is now one very smart cat indeed. Even though she is all grown up now, her weight stayed at about 6 pounds.

Hello. My name is Patches (for obvious reasons) and I once was a Daily Kitten. Now you can see I am all grown up and as pretty as ever. My mom was a feral cat which a nice lady rescued and gave a good home. But before all that my brother and I was born in a laundry room in a local apartment building. The nice lady who found my mother a home took care of Tigerlily and me until we too were given to a nice family which already had two cats and a big huge dog (Mysti) that Tigerlily loves to cuddle up to. Incidentally, our new home happens to be the nice woman's son and daughter-in-law's house. So the nice lady can visit us whenever she wants. We all love seeing her and she now calls us her 'grandkitties' and 'grandpuppy'. The nice lady also told us her two kitties, Kirbee and Maxwell were once posted here as the Cat of the day.

I'll pass it on to my mistress that Kat needs more pictures of pretty kitties. I'm sure my brother Tigerlily and two adopted kitties Hershey and Snuggles would LOVE to see their photos here. Afterall, we all know how vain us cats can be.

This is Diamond Emerald-Eyes who came to me after she'd gotten out of an apartment where I was living, got lost for a LONG while - probably close to 6 months- and then couldn't go with the lady that took her in. Having had so much turmoil in her life, she tends to be very possesive of me and is often one big piece of Kitty Velcro. Still, this does not stop her from going outside to hang with the neighbor if I'm not around, or visiting her cat friends down the street. We moved into our current home almost 2 years ago, and she enjoys having a house to order and living in feline luxury. Diamond has her own blog at Diamondcat's Xanga Site.

Scooby Doo

This is my big boy named Scooby Doo. He is also affectionately called Bubba. I got Bubba for myself as a birthday present 6 years ago. He was just a bad little baby then, but now he is my gigantic 20lb. smartypants. He has such a great sense of humor. He does things on purpose, and he likes nobody but me. He’s been known to put a hurtin’ on dogs larger than himself, but when it’s just him and me, he curls up on me like a big baby and puts his paws around me as if he were hugging me. He likes to talk, and I know exactly what he wants with every meow (which is usually some type of food)! My big ball of catitude even chooses the flavor of wet food he wants for the day. All I have to do is read him the two flavors I pick out, then he sits up to rub on the can that he prefers. He is the boss of the house, over sisters Nika and Cola (who was Cat of the Day on Aug. 13th). He taught them to get up on the fridge to knock the food down when he’s hungry, since he is too big to do it himself. Scooby is my special baby and I love him to pieces!

This is Oliver, or Ah Lover as he's known in his house. He was one of the kitties we trapped when we first moved to this house 12 years ago, he lives next door now and he and Zippy are very good friends. He escaped last summer and got hit by a car but has since recovered and continues to sit in "his" window and flirt with the girl cats in this house. He is a lover and friend to anyone who is willing to rub his tummy or skritch his ears. He also has a very loud voice and when the windows are open on a nice day he will call to Zippy or Sadie to come to their window and talk to him. Sometimes Speedy will sit and talk to him, but he really prefers to talk to the girls. -Donna, the kattonic cats mom

Baby Boy

My daughter Cassie adopted Baby Boy a week or so after adopting Ariel, so they were brother and sister for a while until I took Ariel home with me. Believe it or not, he was once smaller than Ariel. He is now a 14 lb. bundle of love. There are no stangers in his world. Being a college student, Cassie entertains A LOT. Everyone that comes in and sits gets a turn with Baby Boy on their lap. He is a sweet, sweet boy. When he comes to my house on vacation, he makes himself right at home. He does not understand why my kitties don't want to play with him (they're terrified, he's so much bigger), but takes his consolation by climbing on my lap and sleeping with me when he gets the chance. -Ann

For Foster Friday, may I present Miss Callie. She is somewhat shy, but a beautiful multi-patterned cat with huge golden eyes. The vet guessed her age at between 4-7 years old. She has all current shots, tested negative for all diseases. She has been spayed and still has her claws. She appears to have been yet another adult cat left behind when someone moved on without her. I want to introduce my 3 cats, Curzon and Jadzia (up front, twins) and Nimbus (in rear, Jadzia's son). All are part Coon, though it's hard to say how much as the twins were rescued off the streets of Frederick, MD. Nimbus is obviously not a purebred as he's half trailer park tom cat, but you'd never know it by how sweet and gentle he is! If you want a guard cat, take Curzon. If you want a sweetie lover kitty, let Nimbus work his charming magic. Nimbus just celebrated his 5th birthday on Aug 23, and in November he gets his checkup for his HCP (don't make me spell it, it's the 'better' of the genetic heart defects, if you can even say that). The twins will celebrate their rescue anniversaries next month, it'll be 6 years... wow. Hope you enjoy the pic, just to make you smile. BTW that's a medium DOG carrier they're in, the boys don't FIT in cat carriers LOL. -Sharon

This is Zippy or as we call her Princess Ziporah. She came from the same neighborhood as Sadie and was also rescued by Allison. Alli saw some young boys poking a stick around under the neighbors porch, they said they were trying to get a kitten out and showed her bloody paw prints leading from the road to where the kitten was hiding. Allison got a carrier and put a can of tuna cat food in side, it took all of about 5 minutes to catch her. It being the 4th of July and having a house full of her own and some foster cats she called us. We told her to bring her over immediately. We took her to the emergency vet and they cleaned her injured feet and said that she should probably be put down...we said "no way". The next day we took her to our vet and 4 surgeries, thousands of dollars and the sale of one car later she was fine. The theory is that some boys on bicycles grabbed her by the tail and dragged her down the street, her front paws were almost shredded! It doesn't bother her, she has no front claws (well, she does have a couple of stunted ones that never get very long and are very soft) and is missing a part of some of the toe pads. When she walks her tail curls up over her back. Her front paws have to be gently stretched and massaged every morning so the ligaments do not shorten and give her trouble. Despite all this she is ferocious and doesn't back down from anything, she runs through our house like a demon and makes friends with dogs and other cats (other than her sister that is) easily. Daddy thinks she is his baby and we let him think that but she and I have a special bond. She's my little six pound tiger! -Donna, the Kattonic's mom

This is my aunt and uncle's cat Jessie. She found her way to their home about 3 years ago, right after their beloved dogs (a boxer and a pug) passed to the Bridge. My aunt thinks Jessie is the boys way of telling them they were ok. Jessie is about 6-7 years old and only weighs about 7 pounds. She is very skittish around new people, although she did let me pet her when we visited in May. She only has about 1/2 of her tail-when my aunt found her, it was broken and looked like something had been wrapped very tightly around it. She loves to explore the Florida backyard by day but is in the house every night around 7-8. She also loves to stalk the lizards that dare invade her yard! ~Jennifer

I, Maggy (left), am a sweet torti-point Himalayan and am 3-years old; adopted when I was young by my family in Cocoa, Florida. I am a
talker and can be cuddled on my terms, tho am often aloof. Mom says I'm "the queen".

I, Zoey (right), am a cute and fun-loving 18-month old blue-point Himalayan. The humans took me in when I was jut 5-months old and they laugh at me (and with me) hourly as I can-and-will get into anything & everything. Mom says I'm the "court jester" to Maggy's queen.

We two tolerate one another... rarely we'll take part in a nose-tap; but we tend to be a bit jealous of one another. Fun time is our parents bedtime when we take great joy in tearing about the house chasing one another (never do that in daytime hours or they wouldn't pay attention). Great Grandma lives with us and we have to watch out for her wheelchair & her walker -- but they are so much fun to ride upon. Sometimes Daughter comes to visit and brings a cute dog; but he chases us under the bed. And sometimes little grandies come to visit and they love to chase us, too! Hobbes is Cleo's son. Tom's sister Robin adopted Cleo and took her back to Pittsburgh with her. Cleo's purrsonality matches Cheyenne's and Hobbes is just like his uncle Tocchet. He is laid back and mellow. Hobbes doesn't mind what you do as long as you don't take his favorite sunny spot on the porch. -Ann

I am Gemini. I am a puffy little cat. I just had an adventure. I walked outside through a hole in the screen door that no one knew about. I was gone all night and worried my Momma something horrible. But she kept looking for me and found me (finally). I was hungry. She found me when I was a kitten too, so she knew that when I got really scared I would start to mew very loudly. I live with Cheysuli and the lovely Georgia. I used to have my own blog but now I have to share with Chey at Chey's Place. She is kind of a blog hog so I don't get to post as much there. -Gemini

My name is Sadie, sometimes Sadie Lady, most often Sadie Baby Boo....I was born in a storage trailer behind our friend Allison's house and I had two litters of kittens there (the first litter died) before I was a year old. Allison finally trapped me by using my babies as "bait". Then I went to Second Hand Paws. My babes all got adopted within a month, but I was still there. I was shy and scared and hid under my blanket when people came to look at me. Some of the ladies at the shelter named me Shady Lady and called me a bad name (they said I was a lose woman). But not my mom, she always stood at my cage and talked nice to me. She slowly started petting me and making silly noises that made me feel calm. After a long time, like 2 months, a man came with mom to see me. He was nice to me too! Then they both went away and when they came back the nice man had a PTU and the ladies were all smiling and I got stuck in the PTU and went to a place I'd never seen before - my new forever home! The kitty that already lived there didn't like me very much, she kept asking me where I sent her friend Punkin and hissing at me. But I am calm and steady so I never let it bother me to much and she eventually stopped being mean and just ignored me. Her name is Zippy, you'll meet her later. When my brother Speedy came he made her be nice to me and now the three of us are a real family. -Sadie

Hunter

This is Cashmere Growlypants Hunter, though I call him Hunter for short. He's a great all black male kitty. He's very low-key and has made a great brother for my other kitties, Napoleon and the as of yet unnnamed girl intruder. They all share a blog at My Pet's Pictures & Tails. Hunter is about a year old, and a fine fat boy. He had ringworm as a baby, and had to be handled daily when the stinky medicine was put on him. This weirdly made him very attached to his people. He talks quite a bit and always has something to say to me when I'm gone for too long a time. He's training his little siblings to be just like him, though Napoleon thinks he's training Hunter...lol. -Heather
