Daisy & Meanie Pie

This is Daisy (the fat orange one) and Meanie Pie (the infantile black one). They love each other very much, and spend a lot of time snuggled up like this. They are both about 5 years old. It doesn't show in the picture, but Daisy is shaped about like a basketball with legs. Meanie Pie looks like a boa constrictor that swallowed a car--long but with an enormous mid section...We love them both and spend most of our time talking to them and about them. -Alice

Good Morning!!!

I love when kitties snuggle together! Daisy and Meanie Pie, those are cute names! These two kitties are so cute! I love your descriptions of each one. LOL! You gave me my first chuckle of the day. These two sound loved and I'm so glad that you shared that with us!

Hi Linda (alohahelper). Do you know any Silvas? Since I don't know how old you are, I'm not sure to ask who you might know. But I'll start with my Auntie's family. BTW, her name is Linda, too! Yes, small world!

Too cute. I like the name Meanie Pie, I think I have a Meanie Pie of my own..he he. Anyway, they are adorable.

What cuties, love the orange & black combo, too.
Can't get over the number and beauty and personalities of cats. Remember, Missy Blue Eyes is my first cat; never cared for cats, wasted a lot of years. Sigh, well, making up for it at Kat's & PDJ and TDK. Although the kittens are always cute, love the older cats after they "develop" a bit of uniqueness.
Are these the most gorgeous cats ever or what? Love reading the descriptions, just makes my day. You all are a great group.

Good morning!

Hi Daisy! Hi Meanie Pie!

Alice, what cute descriptions. I just started smiling and chuckling. It's so wonderful how they snuggle together. I agree that it would be neat to see a closer picture of each of them.

DONNA--just because your gang is so cooperative--I tried to take a picture of Flumpy this morning, and he buried his head in the blanket...all that was showing was a Big Black Butt!! Meepsie said, "I don't wanna, you can't!" and ran under the bed skirt...Skinny Little Black Butt!

ALICE--your babies are so cute, and I loved the descriptions!! Is Meanie Pie a play on Sneaky Pie? I just finished one of her books, and am saving the new one for a little later.

Everyone needs to read KATHLEEN'S post from last night-- she needs our help. LOL!!

Good Morning everyone !!!!!

Daisy and Meanie Pie are just to cute. None of my 5 guys really snuggle up to each other unless they really have to. Thanks for sharing there pics Alice.

Yes, I have made the move down to Florida, it was a long ride with the kitty crew and Mooch. Now I just have to finish orginizing our place. Oh, and cathc up on all the cuties.

OH, GS thanks for posting Mooch on pet du jour. We got his bed at wal-mart.

Can I ask a question about cat care? You all have seen Missy's photo, she's got thick fur with the tabby stripes and then some longer clear, white and beige hair. Since our temps have been in the 90's, she is really shedding (!!!)in clumps along the "edges of the cat" where its lighter and longer. Can I brush her? If so, what do I need? It sounds retarded, I know, but again, I've never had cats. I saw a couple of different brushes at Walmart. Also, along her spine, the hair was incredibly matted when I got her, had to be shaved to the skin. It's getting matted again, will brushing solve that as well? She is really touchy about having her back touched, maybe because of the matts? Thanks...ML & MBE

Kanippia, you'll have to tell us how the trip went. Did they travel OK? Did you stay in hotels with them?

On a more serious note, this was in our paper today:
http://www.bellinghamherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060512/LIFE02/605120345/1001/NEWS
Very sad. I had no idea that Easter Lilies, or lilies in general were poisonous to cats! This afternoon, I'm going to look very closely at what's growing in our backyard, where we let our babies play. :-(

meowmepurr's mumma, it never occurred to me that it would be difficult to take pictures of fuzzy loves. I thought they were all "cooperative". :-) So, maybe ours are just hams! Keep trying, LOL.

Katnippia, so glad to hear from you. Moving can be an ordeal! Sounds like you all made it in one piece! LOL!

Mumma, your story made me laugh!!! I can just picture those two cute butts, up in the air!!! Thanks for that picture, now I'll chuckle all day long!

gs - it is really matted. The ex-groomer (emphasis on EX) did that combing thing after I got her about a year ago. Guess I'll take her to the vet, it's almost time for the shots.
Hubby (Charley) had a stroke at a premature age and left him paralyzed on one side. The stroke left him even more "impulsive", have to watch him every minute. Had to quit work to care for him, feels like 30 hour days. Just this past month he qualified for early Medicare, we finally have in home care, so I now FINALLY have some free time (whew).
Katnippia -- you drove to Florida with Mooch (saw his photo on PDJ) and cats in tow? Must have been quite the experience.
I grow kitty grass for Missy, keep it going all the time. Have a website where you can get generous free samples (like a drug dealer, get the cat hooked with the free catnip...) if anyone is interested.

mary lynn, I'm interested in the catnip. I'll try to keep it growing in spite of not having much of a green thumb. Kona loves catnip; the girls like it.

Wow, you have been carrying quite a load. I'm glad you've found a bit of relief.

We had a 1/2-persian that I now confess we did not take care of properly with respect to her fur (I was too young to understand or appreciate her predicament). It would get matted, especially the fine fur right behind her ears. We would have to take her to the vet and get her shaved. That's what I would recommend and then when her skin seems reasonably recovered, start brushing her every day. I tried pet-specific brushes on ours and finally settled on an old, round "people" brush that I used to use :-)

The brush can be very stimulating and many cats can't take it much at all at first. They have to get used to it. A little bit every day...and maybe a treat afterwards to get her to associate the brushing with the reward?

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

I'm sorry, it's free kitty grass. And even I can grow it, it is really pretty, too. Here's the web address to cut and paste: http://www.poopsiecat.com/sample.html. You might also try emailing and asking for samples, maybe as The Fuzz Pack??? I've been ordering from him since I got Missy, realized her kitty grass habit was too expensive to warrant buying those little individual cups at Walmart.
I plant two times a week so she always has a supply...use 3" clay pots.
Thanks for the advice, I have really neglected her, poor baby. That's why she hisses if you try to touch the back area. Just noticed today it is solid matts again. I'll get her shaved and start being a good kitty mommy. Promise!!!

Thanks ml. You are a good kitty mommy. None of our cats are long hair but Maddie tends to have dandruff and seems to shed more than the others...and subsequently tends to yack up more furballs. So I try to brush her a few minutes every day (though I admit to missing some days). At first she hated it; but lately I think she likes it, though she wouldn't admit it ;-). Admitting that would be exposing her soft, mushy, non-curmudgeoning side.

I read the article Donna about the lilies! That was sad. I love lilies too! Any fresh flowers I've had, my cats haven't bothered. Of course, I'm home 24-7 so, they don't really have a chance to chew them. I can't remeber if I'd heard that lilies were toxic, but I knew about poinsettias. Okay, going to PDJ and then I gotta get busy making some strawberry jam!! I went s-berry picking Wednesday and picked 20lbs of berries. $1.19 a pound!! Yikes!

OK, EMOTIONAL COMMENT ALERT! SKIP THIS COMMENT IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT KIND OF THING!

ML, I'm so glad you shared and got your frustrations off your chest. As the Mom of a handicapped child, I can relate to some of what you were going through. There are days when I just wish, and this is going to sound really bad, that I could just hide and not deal with it. I don't really mean that, my son is my life as are my other two children. But the exhaustion takes it's toll, it's a 24/7 job! I just want to put my arms around you and give you a big hug! Sometimes that is the best thing anyone can do! I am so proud of you for hanging in there, you sound like a real trooper! And I think it's great that you could share with your fuzz family!

I had a persian when I was growing up. His matts got so BAD! We got to where we shaved him every year. He felt better and that's what counted. I'm not saying to shave MBE but she might be more comfy. Donna had a good suggestion.

GS- YOU ROCK!!! A groomer, I love that we have an ex-groomer that we can ask when we a have specific question.

Thanks everyone, I missed the fuzz family.
Well everyone traveled well. Everyone but Taps got a Ace Promazien pill. Although I was like ice all the way down, due to keeping it like an ice box so they would sleep. We stayed at a hotel here in Tampa, because our apartment was not ready.Everyone seems to be doing fine and liking it. We live in Temple Terrace/ Tampa.

Alice - more photos of those cats, please. They are too cool.

Thank you all, Missy is going to get [partially] shaved next week at the vets. Maybe they can tranquilize her as well???? They'll have to tranquilize me, that's for sure.

Kathleen - I'm going to get a schedule going with Missy. Since I now have some free time, have been able to play with Missy and she is all of a sudden becoming less aloof and distant.

Kim - Thank you so much and a big hug right back to you! I've been doing this only for about five years and it seems like an eternity. I know that want-to-run-away feeling -- you quash (is that a word?) the minute you think it. There was no other option but to take care of him. Well, they suggested a nursing home. No way. I mean, if he needed that level of care, of course. But he is otherwise healthy, just a lot of work. I am proud of you and really impressed. You have two other kids to care for as well. Whoa. You really are the trooper.

So nice to "chat" with you all.

Holy "long comment" GS!! I am only joking, but it is long. It's great though. Anyway, just thought I'd give you a hard time! On my way to PDJ again!

Anonymous said...

Wow! Here I am at work and there's LOTS of comments to read! First of all, thanks Alice for sharing your kitties with us. Love the names and especially LOVE the descriptions! Pudgy cats = happy cats!

Kim, I'm not sure if I know any Silvas but my DAD might. He fixes TVs part-time and he has lots of customers. He was an electrical mechanic at Pearl Harbor before he retired.

Our cats LOVE cat grass. Since they're all indoor cats, we grow them in containers which we keep outside. Once the grass is tall enough, we bring in the containers for them to enjoy. Then we have to check to see if anybody threw up the grass they ate. Yuck!

Maybe it's just me but this does not look like a healthy or happy cat. It makes me sad to see the cat like this.

Browse the pictures. Alice made gentle fun of Daisy but Daisy is petite compared to this cat.

Wow! Sam is beyond fluffy! Like you said Kathleen, it's gotta be something medical! It said his owners said they only fed him one cup of food a day! I wonder if he can walk. Wow!

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

OH MY GOODNESS!!! That poor cat! I'm shocked that a vet would ignore something like this! Who knows, maybe the vet and the owners have talked about the problem. Maybe he's been put on a diet of the one cup a day. Whatever, it's not working. The poor thing doesn't look as if can even walk!

hello everyone, i have been unable to get much computer time lately and when i finally get on i have been having problems with blogger being really, really slow.

i can't believe all the precious kittys.

maci is a doll. he has the most unusual markings. i am mesmerized by his good looks.

mini and moo - i can't believe they are siblings! i am partial to saimese but also love fuzzy kittys w/ long whiskers. the pic of them sleeping is adorable.

sable and nala are beautiful. nala has gorgeous markings. the white on her chest is such a pure looking white. sable is the prettiest shade of soft grey. i love her stripes. and what pretty green eyes.

daisy and meanie pie. i laughed when i read the descriptions of them. even my husband thought the basketball w/ legs was an interesting description. meanie pie looks to be a large solid cat. they are both so handsome.

i would like to thank everyone for sharing their family photos w/ us.

i have a routine i go thru to ck all of my favorite kitty sites everyday. sometimes i only get to look at the pics (i am sneeking peeks at work). i think kat and gs are doing a wonderful, great, fantastic, fabulous, and terrific job with their sites. i usually only post comments on this site but i should be fair and post on gs's site too. will try to do that on a regular basis.

glad to see everyone has made it thru another week. always try to keep the fuzz pack members in my prayers. i'm really in awe of persons who have to take care of loved ones w/ special needs. it takes so much inner strength. special prayers for your families too.

better quit hogging all the comment space. will catch ya'll later.

Hey Momsbusy, Don't know if you'll get this here, so maybe I'll post it 2morrow, but I've noticed you were MIA. Just figured you were busy (like your name says, right? J/K). I have been trying to cut down on my computer time, although I still post a lot. lol. Missed you and glad all is well. Thanks so much for the prayers! Our Fuzz Pack is the best online family! To bad we couldn't all get together one day for like a family reunion type thing! That would be so great! Anyway, goodnight all!

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful advice, help, understanding and prayers. This truly is a wondrous group of people.
See why you stay with that vet, Kathleen, they are definitely worth the trip. Very compassionate. Can't wait to hear about Saturday.
