Special Ed
These are pictures of Special Ed. He was a Christmas gift from my husband to help me get over the death of my cat who passed in October. Special Ed was a stray my husband got from a friend who seems to have strays dropped in her yard on a regular basis. Special Ed had a parasite in his blood that the vet seems to think contributed to some slight brain damage. He is a cat of very little brain but he is the sweetest most loving cat I have ever known. He keeps us laughing with the silly things he does. We named him Special Ed because if he were human he would be one of my students. The cat with Special Ed on the window sill is his best friend Scooter. Scooter is a cat my kids and I took from a feral cat community when he was only about 4 weeks old. He will be 1 this month.

Good morning! There were a few of us that were anxious to see SpEd, so here he and his cute self are! Make sure you click on the pictures to see SpEd better. He is a handsome kitty! I love the little smudge of white on his face. His eyes must be blue, although they look grey in the pic.
Yes his eyes are blue. Bright blue and full of love! The white smudge on his nose looks as if he's just had his nose in my cereal bowl.....which he probably has.
He is beautifel!!!! I think my Spot might be a little "special". On the other hand everyone is. But he is just soooooo cute. So is Scooter. I love your babies! :)
Good morning sped! I saw your comment on yesterday's post, and I was like...who is this? Cool someone new checking out the site! I'm used to seeing SpEd on TDK. So it didn't click...anyway! Welcome to Kat's Cat!
Special Ed is a very sweet boy and seems to be a good friend to Scooter. Looks like you have a lovely furry family. Congratulations on your babies.
Special Ed looks so wonderful and adorable. I love the way he and Scooter seem to get along. That is so neat.
Thanks for sending the pictures in. I've been so looking forward to meeting Special Ed and we got to meet Scooter too.
Are any of you familiar with the Rose Is Rose comic strip? One of the characters is a little cat, Peek-a-boo. Today's strip is pretty neat. I think we all feel this way about our kitty families.
http://www.comics.com/comics/roseisrose/index.html
I for one wasn't. I like the animated strip at the top. And the strip for today is so true. Donna, you gave me an idea for tomorrow's Kat's Korner! Thanks!
SpEd, may I ask where you live? Your backyard looks wonderful with all those trees.
I also like the stick-on cat on the window. :-)
Your kitties are just so beautiful.
What lovely boys! All cats are special, Ed is just a little more special! It's great that he has his buddy Scooter to keep him company. The stick-on cat is a hoot--it would drive my gang nuts!
When we built this house, I finally had a chance to put in nice wide windowsills for the cats. Some of them have towels on them now, to make a softer spot; my 2 black cats love them!
when i made the pic bigger i can see y u call him special i love his face i had one for 17and1/2 yers and she was special but now i only gat 7 cats
Special Ed is adorable. Love his face and markings. And Scooter looks like he's a real good friend.
The first thing that caught my eye -- after the cats, of course! -- are your windows and yard. Love 'em. I grew up in a house with windows and a yard like that. Makes me really lonesome.
Nice to meet you, Special Ed and Scooter.
GS, what was Simba's fathers name? On Lion King? Hmmmm...
What names has Bryan come up with? Sometimes it takes a while for a cat to pick it's name--sometimes it even changes!! Our Flumpy started out as Racket--because he made such a... Paul decided that was NOT his name, and that he was REALLY Flumpy! MEN!!
What a special Christmas gift. Sped is a real handsome kitty, and has a real cute face. Looks like he and Scooter are real nice buddies.
Love the outside country of your home. Looks very rural.
GS, I though that was it and NO it doesn't sound like it would suit him. What about the movie Brother Bear? I can't remember all the names off the top of my head, I just know they were cool names.
Val, How is your move going? Don't know if you've been able to log on, but...
Specail Ed is a really handsome boy. I love the picture with him and scooter, they do look like the best of friends.
Rita, Koda sounds like a wonderful name.
Kathleen, that's wonderful that you're looking into a rescue. I hope one picks you.
I love to see cat buddies curled up together that way. They're such a picture of peace and happiness.
Sped, your place looks like a corner of heaven - cats and gardens, wonderful!
SpEd, Your FuZZ Twosome look so cozy and soul-sharing...I don't know, but it's cute how Scooter (from 5 weeks to the BigBoy he is today! Awesome!)uses Special Ed as his fuzzpillow! Special Ed definately has a King of Siam bearing about him, posing behind that plant! His markings are adorable! Very Striking!
I have to add to the comments about your house & yard - all my life, I've wanted to live in a place like that! It "reads" warmth.
My apartment has wide-ish windowsills and Emily "makes due",
but, sills big enough to have snuggly towels?! I'm glad she can't see these pics, or she'd make a run for your house!
Oh, by the way, has anyone seen the AP release about the Black long haired cat named Sneakers, who was lost 10 years ago,and was found because the owner had the forsight to have a microchip implanted?! The cat went missing in Seattle, and was found in Sacramento! VAGABOND FUZZ!!!
OH! I forgot to say "hi" to everyone! HI EVERYONE!
GS Steele sounds drop dead georgous! A Silver Tiger, wow!
GS, the other characters on Brother Bear are Kenaii, Denahee, & Sitka. And of course the moose, Tuke and Rutt. I love that movie! I like Koda too, but I still like Aslan also.
LOL GS! If the reference is from TV then I may not be able to get it. We don't get cable. Just NetFlix and whatever DVDs we have on the shelf. :-)
Please tell me.
I actually like Roo too, as well as Koda. Aslan is OK but it doesn't flow off the tongue as easily as Koda or Roo ("Koda-baby" "Koda-boy" --lots of sickening nicknames just flow from that one. :-))
GS, I had to go back and look. I fordot what the question was. Roo...it's on a TV show? Hmmmm...Is it from that animated show...hold on, I'm going to your webpage. brb...okay. Is it from InuYasha? Did I win?! lol
I just got home from school. What a day! Thank you all for your kind comments. Special Ed is absolutely wonderful and Scooter is one of a kind. Yes... it is a waverly valance in my window. Since so many of you seemed interested in my house and surroundings I will give you some info. I live in Springfield, GA in between Savannah and Statesboro. I have a cottage that was built in 1920 and it sits on 5 1/2 acres. We moved to GA about 4 years ago from Mayberry, NC (where the Andy Griffith show is based). I love to garden (flowers not veggies) and am known as the "flower lady" by the locals. Not many people here have any flowers in their yards because of the heat. The flowers bring hummingbirds and butterflies galore .... which Scooter and Ed watch all day from their window sills. I have 12 windows that over look the flower gardens and woods and if the cats are not in a sill they are on my bed or in my lap. I have really enjoyed getting to know you all.
GS... be patient, the name will come and when it does you will know it's right.
Special Ed is beautiful...and I like his name too! He looks like he has some Siamese in him...
He is adorable.
I love questions, GS...you know that! lol That sounds like a great idea(trivia everyday)! Hmmmm. I'm still thinking on Roo, or Ryu as it might be spelled. I'm gonna has to refer to my husband for this. I'll get back to ya.
Special Ed and Scooter are lovely kitties and have a great home! I'd like to hear more about Special Ed's brown mousie - I cracked up when I read that the other day!
Karen C.~ I don't know what it is, but Special Ed will growl and huff and run from room to room with this old brown mouse he's claimed. We have lots of mice, balls, etc... which he will play with... but Lord have mercy, you've never seen such a fuss as when you get within 4 feet of the brown mouse. He will hold it in his mouth so long that a little drool will escape from the edges of his mouth. And the growling beats all I've ever heard. It's not the hissy growl of an angry cat, it's a low, throaty growl... like that of a big dog staking its claim on a bone. We laugh at Ed daily (more like hourly). I'm sure you all have silly stories about your furry friends.
Sped - My Emma girl used to be that way w/these little, I call them, leopard balls. It's a fleece-like ball w/feathers attached w/velcro. She would carry them around and if any others got near her, she'd stare you down and then run...growling all the way. She doesn't do it w/them anymore. Now she's obsessed...and I do mean obsessed, with paper!! She hears the slightest crinkle of paper and she halls butt to wherever she heard it. She loves to play fetch. But she doesn't growl over paper, she just wants you to pluck it, so she can bring it back to you.
My kitties have those leopard balls too. It's nice that they attach the feathers with velcro, because after Grr tears the feathers to pieces, they can still play with the featherless balls. Grr likes to run around growling with her feather toys, and then she deposits them in her water dish. I often have toys drying in the laundry room. I bet Special Ed is adorable with his mouse!
Kat1~ Too funny about the obsession with paper. Special Ed has an issue with paper. Any magazine, newspaper, wrapping paper, bills, homework, etc. lying around suddenly become his enemy. He scrathes, tears, claws, chews, bites and shreds anything he can get to. Naturally my kids thought they could use that as an excuse to not turn in their work, "My cat tore up my homework". Ha!
Karen C. ~ I love the name Grr. That is a great name. Why the water bowl I wonder? Do your kitties drink from the water bowl? Mine are sink drinkers. We must leave the laundry room sink and one bathroom sink dripping so they can drink. They have a water bowl, but no one seems to know what its purpose is.
Grr was very scared when we first caught her (at 2 months old) and would curl up in a little ball and growl. Once she got used to us, she continued the growling when playing with her feather toys. Grr seemed like a perfect name for her. All my kitties like to drink from a bowl on the bathroom counter next to the sink. Grr drops the toy in and then pokes at it with her paw. She also insists on going into the shower right after someone comes out. She just sits on the wet floor and stares down the drain.
hello to everyone. if you miss a day or check the site really late you will miss so much.
it has taken me forever to read all the comments about special ed. he seems to be a super special cat. perhaps simple minds mean more room in the heart for giving and receiving love. it seems so w/ special ed. scooter is a cutie too. they look so content on the window sill. does special ed ever try to chew/eat/dig up your plants? i have always managed to have at least one kitty that will destroy any plant within reach.
i couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about your backyard until i figured out that not everyone lives down south (just a bit brain dead today LOL). i live in south carolina. even though i live in the city we have trees all around. i have two tall oak trees in my backyard. the squirrels & birds that visit my yard are my kitties entertainment.
Our cat Bebe used to have a favorite toy. I say "used to" because it's been lost for many months. It was once a fake sheepskin stuffed mouse toy but after the eyes, ears, and tail came off, it was just a pear-shaped toy. Bebe would carry it around while talking to it. And he would stop, as if embarrassed, if we watched him doing this. It always ended up in his water dish. Then he would take it out and walk into the living room carrying his dripping wet toy. If there was water all over the kitchen, we followed the trail right to his wet toy on the rug. I would squeeze it dry and hang it on the clothesline but he would steal it back and put it back into the water dish. After repeated soakings and squeezings, the fake sheepskin got pretty bald and the stuffing got lumpy so it looked pretty disgusting but he still LOVED that toy.
After he lost it (or hid it so well that we can't find it) he's never done this to any other toy.

I live in Los Angeles, but I come from a small town in upstate New York and I hope to move back someday. The view that Special Ed has out his window looks like heaven to me.
I'm glad to know Grr isn't the only one who drowns her toys and I love hearing all the kitty stories.
I live in Bellingham, WA in the northwest and although it's green and there are lots of tree-covered hills, they tend to cut down most of the trees when they put in new neighborhoods and then plant young, skinny, tiny trees. I love areas that look like your backyard :-)
Karen C.~ My sister lives in Los Angeles. Corona actually. She will be coming out here in a couple of weeks. I am trying to convince her to move out this way. Do you like California?
momsbusy ~ Where are you in South Carolina? We spent spring break in Columbia doing the zoo and the state museum.
I LOVE all the stories about the cats and their toys and water bowls. Isn't it funny how they favor one toy over another, much like human children. I wonder what it is that causes them to chose their favorite. Is it texture, smell, sound?????
Oh wow! After talking about Bebe and his favorite toy, he's Kat's pick for Saturday, May 6th!
