Deb Get Better Soon!
Last night, Deb was admitted to the hospital with what was thought to be a possible heart attack. Luckily it was not that, but a virus that inflamed the lining of her heart. She is at home and is to be on bed rest all day. So, please, keep her in your prayers today and ML will keep us updated on her condition. As we all know, Deb is stubborn! She will have her heart in working order in no time at all!! I'm certain of it! We are concerned for you and love you Deb!

I talked to Sloane about an hour ago. They were getting Deb stabilized. Sloane promised she would call if there was any information and Deb will call me as soon as she can.
When I hear from them, I will post here first.
I agree Karen! Slow down, Deb!

Deb Report:
Just got off the phone with Deb.
SHE HAD A VIRUS THAT INFLAMED THE HEART LINING.
She is at home, getting ready to spend the day sleeping, on doctor's orders.

Deb, So sorry to hear about the virus you contracted and hope that you are feeling better today. I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. Take care and follow doctors orders to rest.
Deb is going to sleep for a few hours now, doctor's orders. She is already plotting getting a laptop set up so she can blog from her sickbed. Isn't that so like her!
But right now, she definitely needs to be sleeping. Like Karen C said, she needs to give that big ol' generous heart of hers a good rest now.
I'm going to ask Kat, but I'm sure it's okay, if you all leave Deb your thoughts and prayers right here.
I will post any and all updates right here as well.
We love you, Deb.

If you haven't seen Grr's limerick, take a look. If Midnight and Grr are going into a limerick contest, it could get nasty, real quick! They are BOTH good limerick writers. Except for theirs, the only ones I know are really dirty, but funny.
Limerick Contest for Cats...WOW.
I've heard of those...they can get bad. Weren't those banned in a couple of states???? Whoa.
Wonder if Cocoa is going to get on it as well.
Deb, I am so relieved that it wasn't a heart attack! You really had us scared last night!! You are in our prayers today! Listen to your doctor and rest rest rest! We love you! Get well soon!

My dearest friend!
I think this may be God's way of giving you a "heads up"-TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!! We know how you do take care of yourself, but going full-throttle 110% of the time, well, Dr Deb...you understand what to do! You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of the rest of us!!
(heh-heh!) Feel good, and ALL the Royals send kisses and cuddles...especially Brutus! Do you know, he's learned to give "kisses" on demand?! I just get close to his face and say "kisses!" and he'll give me a couple of wet ones!! Right ON THE LIPS!! We'll get pictures of that! Promise!
Now go to sleep... ;}}
Love you!

Just talked to Deb, Spats (I think) is sitting on her so she can't move. It's a team effort, the cats are working in shifts. Good thing.
Well, KC passed the vet with FLYING COLORS! At first Dr. Smith was a bit hesitant about KC's prognosis. But once she saw her gobbling down food, prancing around, snuggling to sleep on my shoulder, she knew it was okay.
She is about 4 weeks old.
She doesn't have all her baby teeth.
She does not have Leuk or AIDS. Yea.
She does not have worms or tapeworms. Yea.
She does not have a single flea. Yea.
She barely weighs 14.5 ounces.
She has a respiratory infection.
She has an upset tummy.
Everyone just fell madly in love with her. They all agreed she is a tortie. I don't know much about cats, but Deb's torties don't look a thing like her. But it's just a name, who cares.
BTW, the lady ahead of me paying was crying. I asked her if she was okay, and happened to glance down. On the floor by her was an empty pet carrier. I bit my lip until she left, and then I started crying. Just thought you might want to send out a little prayer for her tonight.
Wow ML! 4 weeks old! I'm sure the vet probably mentioned this, and I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, but when they are that young, it sometimes helps to add a little water to her soft food. Helps her lap it up easier. And it sounds like you were already feeding her every 2-3 hours, which is good. Just makes you wonder where she came from and what happened to her mommy! Poor thing! She doesn't have to worry anymore at least! And that is so sad about the lady w/the empty carrier! It brought tears to my eyes as I read it. Special prayer for her tonight!
Btw, glad to hear Deb's kitties are keeping her resting!
Yes, Karen, Dr. Smith fed her some wet food, watched her "wolfing" it down. Then she got the dry. She said KC was really trying to eat, just couldn't because she doesn't have all her teeth.
The weight is the one issue I didn't post, she HAS to start gaining weight. That could be critical. KC has to see the vet two times a week until she fills out. Dr. Smith says she has seen kittens skinnier, but not often.
She did get antibiotic, twice a day. Haven't tried it yet, she showed me a little trick to use. KC is so flopsy it won't be too difficult (famous last words).
Dr. Smith is going to write your shelter (wish it was YOUR shelter) and have the neuter date pushed back quite a bit. Guess when a shelter puts something on the papers, the vet has to comply?
ML, what a story!!! Karen, you got to KC just in time! She is such a lucky little kitten and I truly believe that she will do well!
Love and hugs to you ladies and little KC!
Kim, like Rose pointed out, if KC is four weeks old, that means she was around 3 weeks when she was brought in.
Behold, the ferocious "yellow dot" kitten. Three or four weeks old. Terrorizing those stupid shelter people.
Her weight when checked in to the shelter was more than check out, one of the reasons they didn't recommend adoption. Charley swears they were starving her to death.
Thank God for people like Karen and Deb, both too stubborn to listen.
I heard from a couple of our ART volunteers that our Animal Control here in VA does that same thing. Cats come in injured and suffering and kittens come in as little babies, like KC. Cats who are injured stay injured until their time is up (put to sleep) or their owners claim them. Kittens who come in too young to eat crunchies...oh well! They starve. The Animal Control here isn't equipped to deal w/anything but caging the animals until they are claimed and then euthanizing them when their time is up! I don't see how anyone can stand working there! Again, so glad Karen was there to rescue little KC!! She'll be fine ML! She'll gain weight in no time. Her next visit she will have gained and the doc will be so surprised at how much she has gained. I have never heard of the vet having to call a shelter like that to get the spay/neuter date changed! You don't want, is it him or her??, spayed/neutered on that date, you change it! Right? Sorry, I always get heated, as we all do, when it comes to innocent(sp?) kitties...and all animals!
Well, I'll ask Dr. Smith when I see her Thursday. Don't know why she said that, she read what was written on the papers from the shelter and said, I'll have to call them about pushing that date back.
Think I just figured it out, Kat. To pick up KC, although they had given a quoted price of $25 or something, when Karen C actually went to get her, it was quite a different story. Can't remember now, think it was something like $100? Anyway, that included spaying in CA (with them well knowing the cat was going to Houston ASAP hence the reason for the release).
Bet Dr. Smith saw that the neutering was prepaid on the papers (that's what she was looking at) and was offering to get them to change the date.
Deb, I would like to help you with that battle. If I remember, that was why Momma Grace's four [gorgeous, beautiful, spectacular, etc.] kittens were going to be put down: they couldn't eat dry food. Why aren't there kitten shelters?
And why won't/don't more people spay and neuter cats???? My heart broke when we stepped into Dr. Smith's office and there were eight adorable adoptable kittens, plus a huge white lion of a cat (like Seaborne), all waiting. And I thought about Torti and Cosmos, also waiting. And KC, and Momma Grace & Company, who were lucky. Just breaks my heart. And to know there are thousands more out there and only some of them will get 4ever homes.
[where's my tissues...]
I say briefly: Best! Useful information. Good job guys.
