Gilbert
Gilbert lived on the streets of Providence, Rhode Island. All of my neighbors hated him and thought he was mean and disgusting. They constantly would discourge is presence in their yards. My husband and I trapped him and had him neutered. We put him in a large cage in the basement after his surgery, but he went balistic and sounded so vicious. He would not calm down...like a wild animal. So we let him back outside. My husband took an old army tent and made a double entrance tent and filled it with hay so he could snuggle at night. For a year he lived right outside my door in his tent. He came for food 3 times a day, but would not let me get near him. When we decided to move, I upped the anti by offering him the best of wet food and trying to touch him with a brush. The day before we moved a set a very small pet carrier on the ground beside me and put his food so that his back was facing me. When he went to dig it to eat, I grabbed his scruff and shoved him as swiftly as possible into the pet carrier. It was so small he had trouble turning around, which allowed me to save his life and bring him with me. At my new home he lived on the screened in porch for about 2 weeks before he made friends with my dog and another 2 weeks before he fell in love with me and my husband. Now he is the sweetest, most loving kitty. Gilbert will sit on anyone who sits down. He's trying to make up for all those years of loneliness. He is our only kitty who goes outside and when he does he follows the dog all over the yard and lays against her belly. He never, ever wanders away from Brandy-Dandilion. -Christina w/Harmony Pillows

.....who's the little black fuzzaduzza laying against Gilbert?.......
Good morning! Isn't Gilbert just a doll!!! And handsome!
Rosie - The little fuzz with him is Polly! I will post her in a couple weeks. I just had to show that picture so everyone could see how sweet Gilbert had really become.
What a great story!
awww what a wonderful story. Gilbert is soooo handsome! what a beautiful big guy! i'm so glad you had the patience to rescue him and so glad he's adjusted so well to his new home and buddies! how sweet. your hubby sounds like a great guy too, to take the time to make that tent for him. how cute.
Great story! Bless your heart, you've got a special touch.
Gilbert is beautiful. So glad to hear that you took a chance on him and gave him the opportunity to be the loving cat he is today.
Gilbert's a handsome Tuxie guy. It's great that you saved him even when he didn't really want to be. He learned, though.

Oh, that is a great story. It is so nice to hear these stories of "vicious" kitties that turn out to be the sweetest fuzzies. Good job in taking him in.
Aren't cats amazing!?!?!? Just give them enough time & they will come around. You know they want to be petted!!

Gilbert looks very handsome and snuggly. This really is a great story! I don't think there is any such thing as a "vicious" kitty--only scared ones. I think most of them become quite sociable. Its just a matter of finding them the right home.
Gilbert is so cute, and you helped him in spite of himself.
Great story.
Oh Boy... someone just told me I was Cat of the Day! I had no idea. I'm so excited... I'm going to have mommy post pictures of me and Brandy.
See that little bitty kitty on me. That's Polly. She liked me first when she came to live with us. She thought I was her new mommy.
I'm so excited, cause mommy said I can be the cat of the week. Thanks everyone. I didn't ever expect such an honor. But life has really turned out wonderful...
Love paws, purrs and head-nudgies,
from Gilbert
hi Gilbert! we love your story. your people are the nicest and most patient people in the world to not give up on you, and now look how sweet and happy you are!
our Lady has the flu and this is the first time she's been up today. we're very unhappy that we haven't gotten to check all our friends' blogs, but maybe later. we have to go lay on her and hold her down some more.
What a wonderful story! It just goes to show what patience and perseverance will accomplish. The former "wild animal" is now a snuggle boy! Good for you, Gilbert!
