Chaucer (RIP)

This is Chaucer shortly before he started getting sick. He belonged to a couple I used to babysit for. They lived in a small apartment with a big golden retriever, Chaucer and two kids. Very close quarters! Anyway, to make a long story shorter, they went on vacation for a week and left Chaucer alone, w/no heat (30 degree temps outside) and had my friend and I "check" on him. Well the first time we went to check on him, I left them a note and took Chaucer to stay with me. When they got back they said I could keep him if I wanted him. So of course I said, "Yes"! Chaucer was a sweet sweet boy and also deaf. He didn't mind getting a bath and loved the blow dryer and being vacuumed. He was a pretty laided back kitty and got along great with our then kitten, Danny Boy. He was about 13 yrs. old when he came to live w/us and we were blessed to spend 3 great years with Chaucer. He started dropping weight and upon visiting the vet, we found out that he had hyperthyroidism, a heart murmur and a growth on his heart. He was 16 and the hyperthyroidism could've been controlled with meds, but at his age and with the growth on his heart AND our current financial status, we decided it best to let him go to the Rainbow Bridge. We love you Chaucer, RIP. -Emma's Kat

Good morning all! This post is not too sad...is it? Chaucer had a good 3 years with us, as did we with him, but I never got that close "bond" with him. Know what I mean? I mean we missed him and it was sad when we let him go. But he was so sick, I knew it was the best thing and his suffering ended. He's been at the Rainbow Bridge for, gosh, 7 yrs. I do believe! And now he's healthy and can hear...all the birdies and sounds! I don't think he...I know he didn't even know he couldn't hear. He loved life and was a very good kitty. One time, he took a nap in the middle of the floor while we were watching a movie. We were watching it in the dark, and when it was over I looked at him and he was so sound asleep, I though he was dead for a minute. I lifted one of his paws and let it go and it thumped to the groud. It really scared me for a minute until I saw that he was breathing! :)

How's everyone this morning?!

Kim - When are you coming home?

Deb - We miss you! Hope the move is going smoothly!

ML - Feeling better?

Hello efurryone!

Chaucer was a really lucky cat to have had the love of warm home to keep him happy.

That is the most important thing, he was happy and well cared for...not left in 30 degree weather to fend for himself...sorry but how could anyone leave an animal like that?

*SIGH
I'll get off my soap box now.

Debra - I know! It still gets me upset today, to think they left him with one big bowl of water and one big bowl of food, no heat and all alone...For a week! They told us not to worry about the litter box too! He was so happy to see us and loved having a feline companion in Danny! I'll have to find the picture of them sitting together. It didn't come out so good, but you can see them.

Danielle - I actually heard from my sponsor just a bit ago. She and her right-hand volunteer and another foster are all going out of town. So she asked if I could babysit Zebby and Solomon for a week until she got back. I had to think about it for a long while....NOT! So, she will call me later and tell me if that is what the plan will be...To pull all kitties out of PetsMart and Solomon's foster is going out of town, and bring those two here.

They actually took Magellan to her mother's farm. He had a great time and eventually ended up living with them.

Jess - That's another thing he loved...Belly rubs! And he always slept in crazy positions and very soundly, due to his deafness.

I know what you mean about the bonding thing Kat. Sometimes the bond isn't real strong with some of the pets we have throughout the years but yet they are still loved and cared for and we really feel bad when it's their time. Sometimes I feel guilty because I don't feel that bonding with all the cats or dogs. Like what I have with Casper and what I had with Little Bit a dog I had over ten years ago. I'm glad you gave Chaucer that love and care for the three years you had him.

Now, I got to go take a look at the Casper look alike.

Yep, Nooch is a definate Casper look alike.

Ohh, he looked so happy to be living with you and Danny Boy! We've had 2 white boy cats over the years and they too, got used to being occassionally bathed. Though you didn't have him when he was young so that a strong bond could be formed, he still left you with happy memories.

Guess what? Due to frequent hints by Pumpkin (in the form of getting in front of the computer screen when I was reading OTHER kitty blogs) he now has a blog of his own! http://pumpkins-world.blogspot.com/ Just got it set up last night so I'm still learning what I can do with it. At least I learned how to put YOUR link on the page since you're the one who got me interesting in blogs in the first place!

Hi everyone.
Just talked to Deb, she is due back tomorrow morning sometimes. She checked her email and has a possible 4-ever home for Tavey and Tavish. Yea!!!!

I am feeling much better today. Those antibiotics are amazing.

Karen,I emailed you Deb's home fax number. Also, you and Deb might want to check back with Robyn about your Squillions adoption, she had misplaced my home mailing address. I forgot which you adopted or would have told her. Theo should be mailed out this week.

Hi there,
I will be working on the adding links tutorial this week.
Sorry for the delay, am having to write another article for The Magazine on what a blogger is and how to get into it.
It is a bit harder to add links because you are going into the "raw" HTML code. But it's not that hard, either. Us cat bloggers won't have any trouble!!!

ML (Mary Lynn) who is not logged in on purpose for creating this article, have to show exactly how to do it...blah, blah, blah...

Hi Kat and all mt fuzzy sisters!

I had adopted a cat from a shelter that had been badly abused. We were told that he was 7 years old. It took him a while to warm up too me and when he did, he would let only me, pet him. He immediately fell in love with Alan when we met. That's how I knew Alan was the one! I'm not joking about this either! Anyway, we had Arthur for 7 more years before he went to the Rainbow Bridge. He never did really warm up to anyone else but he was a good cat and very nice. That bond didn't happen with me for many of those years. I thought it never would. But it did happy after much love and leaving him to his own. The point is, it took a long time. I think it's wonderful that you saved this cat from a dismal life. Even though that bond never came with you and Chaucer, I believe it would have. One thing is for sure, you gave him love and he loved you in return. Thank you for taking this wonderful kitty into your heart and home!
