Gypsy

Gypsy is the middle cat of our five cat babies. She is about 2 years old now and the sweetest skinny thing there is. She became a momma in October and loves her son to death. Her favorite thing to do is sit in windows and dream about running in the grass. -Amanda M.

Good morning and...

Hi Gypsy!

I agree, such captivating eyes and a beautiful, expressive face.

Experiment: On ironcats, I've put a link to a test video clip. I discovered the movie feature of my digital camera yesterday. The clip is 2.5MB in size, in .wmv format (plays with Windows Media Player or WinAmp). Please ignore/forgive the "unregistered, trial version watermark" on it from the software I'm trying (try before you buy) in order to make the clip smaller than what comes out of the camera. If you have broadband, and/or are willing to be a test subject, feel free to give it a try. I've never tried making a video clip available on a web site before. You can email me at donna at ironcats dot com.

What a beautiful girl. That sweet little face, the girlie pink nose, just too cute.
Thanks Kat, for the tip to look for Chase on TDK, will do. Love to discover the cats on the other sites as well. And thanks again for this blog. The only way to start a day (at least in my house) is with Kat's Cat of the Day, PDJ, TDK.

Hi Donna! I saw your three babies!!! Great idea for your site! It's really neat to see our kitty friends in live action!

Ladies, you have got to see Kitten Picture's site today!!! It is the sweetest picture of a Momma keeping her babies safe and warm!

Good Morning all--

AMANDA- I love Gypsy's eyes, and the dilute calico is just beautiful. I just looked back at Chase's picture. Talk about a cutie!! He is about the most relaxed kitten I've ever seen.

DONNA- Your video clip was great! Man, I love having broadband!! We live out in the country, so had dial-up until about a year ago. What a difference.

I hope everyone saw my little Yoda buddy yesterday at PDJ. Paul sez, "Why didn't you ask him to stand up?" Remember, he's not small, he's just short! My sister loved seeing him, and even sent me some more pictures to share...

Good Morning Everyone !!!!

Gypsy you are a very beautiful girl.Amanda thanks for sharing your baby with us.

Well it's moving weekend everyone. i will try to post tomorrow, but i'm sure i will be loading and packing. The kitty crew sends kitty loves, and catch yah when we get to florida.

Emma's Kat said...

Hope your move goes smoothly!! What part of FL?

Thanks everyone! Gypsy is such a sweet girl too :) I've got three or four of this picture blown up and framed around my house, she normally isn't much of a camera ham, but I happened to catch her in a good mood. Little did I know, she was pregnant with Chase in this picture! Pregnancy just makes her glow, doesn'nt it :)

Emma's Kat said...

Amanda, how did Gypsy find you?

Anonymous said...

May of 04, I had the 'kitten' itch, and found a note on a board in the pet store about kittens, so I went to see about them, and she was one of over 50 cats and kittens that lived in a big ole abandoned barn a girl my age had found. Gypsy caught my eye right away, and after a 5 minute chase, we managed to scoop her up. She started purring right away, hasn't stopped since!

Emma's Kat said...

That's so great that you rescued her!! She's got the good life now!
Over 50 cats & kitten in a barn!? So, the girl found the cats in this barn? Were they like a colony of ferral cats, or had someone put them in the barn?

Am I asking to many questions this a.m.!!?? I'm the question girl...lol. ("dang!, she's nosey!)

amanda - gypsy is beautiful. i love the soft grey color on her face. and such a sweet face. you are both so lucky you scooped her up.

Hi GS! Yes, very good! Kona is the one under the deck and Maddie walked in front of him. I could tell that Kona was thinking about jumping out at Maddie but he restrained himself. :-) This video thing could quite easily get out of hand.

I guess like parents who have twins, when you live with them, the differences become really obvious. We love having "twin" kitties.

I can't wait to hear all about your weekend picking up Steele.

Kat, I hope to see a clip of Emma wagging her tail soon. :-)

Meowmepurr's Momma (Oh my gosh, I can't remember your "human name")--I'm glad you liked the video. Thank you, to those who have watched it.

Emma's Kat said...

GS, I'm excited for you!! Better email us some pix ASAP! How old is Steeley?? He's not a kitten is he...or is he?

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Katnippia, good luck with your move! I hope it goes smoothly. I'll be thinking of you.

GS, can't wait to see pics of your new baby! I know you're excited, I'm excited for you! Funny that you're counting down the time until you get him/her, we do that as parents don't we?! Am anxiously awaiting news.

Fuzz Pack, I'll be thinking of you all and hope that you're all doing well. I'll be off the air, so to speak, for the next week. Hopefully I'll find access to a computer so that I can check in and see how you're all doing and to see your kitties. I'll probably pop in a few more times today. We'll see. Take care all!

OMG! The imposter is BACK on TDK and has targeted GS! They call themselves Baloo of the jungle and said something just awful!!!

Anonymous said...

Such a beautiful and very feminine looking kitty! I loved the picture of her little baby, Chase. (I had already saved that one in my rapidly expanding file of cute kitty pictures.)

Anonymous said...

The video clip worked really well - I hope we'll get to see more! I have 3 black kitties myself, and I love Maddie and Kona, but I really feel like I could look at Wiley all day long! What a sweety!

Anonymous said...

Maybe he removed it. I was just reskimming the comments and I don't remember seeing anything. But I was only skimmming...

I still go to TDK frequently, but I prefer to have my "conversations" with the FuzzPack here or at PdJ.

Both Maddie and Wiley could lose a few...er, ounces, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I don't want them to feel like they're starving all the time. Sigh.

The comment did get deleted. I saw it, but now it's gone and all the numbers moved up one. I don't really think the comment was in reference to Meeko, though. I think the idiot was commenting on what the kitten's owner said - at least that's how I understood it. Anyway, those "jokers" aren't worth my time. I'm glad the comment's gone.

We've been trying to get Grr to slow down the rapid expansion of tummy by having her run up and down the hall chasing the laser pointer, but she hasn't lost any weight. She's only 11 months old and is already 13 hefty pounds.

...I forgot my "C" again last time - sorry to the other Karens, I'll get used to this soon...

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Ya know GS, I feel the same way about TDK! I go out of respect but much prefer you and Kat. It's more intimate and even when the sites gain new members (yours and hers) it's still more of a family chat. There are the same childish commenters again on TDK and it just doesn't seem like as much fun as it once did. I guess I just got use to this format. I like it better. Don't get me wrong, I love the kittens on TDK but I'm just not as into it as I once was. I was just so shocked that it didn't take that jerk long to notice TDK was back. Anyway, I get a little sad when I think that I'll miss the daily conversations that we have on both of your sites but not so much with TDK. I don't feel like I'll miss anything. DON't get me wrong, I do like TDK, it's just not the same.

OK, now that that's out of the way, how much time now?

As for chubby kitties. I had a vet once who told me that I was killing Oscar by letting him get to 13 lbs. I felt just awful and so guilty!!! Then we moved and I told my new Vet that I really wasn't a bad parent, I knew he was overweight and that I was trying to get him to lose. This Vet told me that Oscar was healthy and happy. He was obviously active and in no danger at all. He also told me that Oscar weighed 14.5 lbs (at that time, he now weighs 15.5). He said some cats are just big but as long as their attitudes and habits are consistent, then don't worry. We're all good parents, anyone visiting this site and GS's will notice right away how proud we are of our cats and how much we love them. But it is fun to poke fun at the girth and tease about losing the weight. HEE HEE!

Anonymous said...

Kim, I imagine you're right. All our babies were at the vet in February for a checkup and dental cleaning and of course they were weighed. The vet said nothing about any of their weights so I should probably stop worrying about it. I'll just try to keep them from getting too much bigger.

Anonymous said...

Okay then - I'll stop worrying about Grr. Maybe she's just destined to be a Big Girl. When do they stop growing? Her head, paws, tail, body - everything - she just hasn't stopped.

momsbusy said...

although i haven't been visiting the different kitty sites very long, i agree that there are some who are very childish in their comments. and some who are not very nice. although TDK has some wonderful pics, i prefer to visit PDJ and KCoTD sites. it is a much more friendly, family type atmosphere. it is so nice to find others that love their four legged children the same as i love mine. after all they are a part of our families.

ladies - keep up the great work. if you join in together in a site, i will come everyday and visit. thanks again.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Sorry, I know I'm a comment hog today! LOL! As I said, I'm going to be gone a week.

Karen C, Oscar grew steadily for the first five years or so, and I don't mean just his weight, his body just seemed to fill out. He was so long! And then he was so tall! Then he just sort of evened out. He's 8 now and I still see him change from time to time. I don't know if this is how it really works, but it's what I've come to see with him and past cats. So do they stop growing, maybe, but I think they're always changing. He sure looks more mature. He's slowly lost that kitten look over the years and his fur, which was mostly orange as a little guy is getting more white and lighter orange.

Anonymous said...

Gypsy is really lovely. She reminds me of a wonderfully sweet calico I used to have. (Her name was Fleur.)

Is Grr less that two years old? I've read that cats don't stop growing until they're about two - although they don't grow a lot the second year.

Some cats are just meant to be big. I think you can tell a bit by looking at how deep a chest a kitty has, and how broad her shoulders are. Also, some cats are just rounder and cobbier. Just for myself, I love that type.

If Grr really needs to be on lower-calorie food, you could ask what your vet thinks of Iams light. Vets have recommended it to me, and my cats have liked it.

I didn't see the really objectionable comments on TDK. Perhaps I'm lucky I didn't. I sympathize with the feelings of those who did. It seems there's always someone around who wants to spoil a good thing just for sheer meanness.

Yes, 50 cats/kittens in one barn. She moved into her new house, the barn was on her property, and when she went to check it out, she was greeted by an explosion of cats! They weren't feral, i could tell that most of the adults were one time housepets, but most the kittens were pretty shy because of the lack of human contact.

I found my Fievel the same way, just a different situation, and not SO many cats, just about 20 of them.

Emma's Kat said...

Amanda, How terrible and at the same time neat to find such a surprise on new property! It just seems sad that they seemed friendly enough but were out on there own like that. Anyway, I'm glad as I'm sure Gypsy is that you picked her. I hope she was able to find them all good homes. It's amazing to me how young a kitten starts realizing and being scared of humans. My Benji came from a group of ferrals and he was hissing and spitting at 4 weeks old!
Of course, Benji, being the special kitty he is, started purring at us by the next day. I absoutely love the name Fievel!! Did you get it from the movie about the little mouse-kawitz?? I, and don't laugh, used to have a black and white Angel fish named Fievel. He/she was my fave fish. That was a few years ago...lol.

Katnippia said...

Amanda what was Gypsy looking at when you took her pic?

Kat1 and Kim thanks, I'm sure our move will go smoothly. We are moving to Tampa. 4 of the 5 kitties are getting some Ace promazine, Taps can't get any due to his kidneys.

I will be missing my fuzz family while moving.

Katnippia said...

Karen C. I have a 12.2 pound girl. One vet says she needs to lose weight yet another says thats she's just a big girl. As long as she's not having probs jumping, laying down or anything else. Maybe she is just ment to be a big girl.

Anonymous said...

Fievel's name is a funny story. See, my 3 oldest cats are all girls, and we wanted to keep it that way, so when I picked Fievel out, I double checked to make sure it was a girl, and I'm normally pretty good at sexing kittens, even young ones.I could tell Chase was a boy the moment he was born. So, we named her Willow, after my favorite tree. Well, about 5 weeks later, Willow was sitting on my chest, and I notcied something...EEK! Willow is a BOY! so, we quickly thought of a new name,my step son was watching American Tail, and that's how Fievel was named Fievel LOL. It fits him well because he's pretty meek and timid like a mouse.

Anonymous said...

Katnippia, Gypsy was looking up at Fievel sitting on top of the dresser when I took the picture. Fievel is her husband :)

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

I can't get over how amazingly beautiful Gypsy is!!! Everytime I log on, the site of her and those eyes just amaze me!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh, too cute! She does look like she's looking at a loved one!

Thanks for the comments, everybody. Grr is only 11 months old and looks like she's just going to be a huge cat. I've never had the opportunity to watch kittens grow up to adults, so I didn't have any idea as to when they stop growing. Grr's sister (Midnight) is very sleek and slender. Her brother (Cocoa) is shorter and rounder and just all puffy/fluffy looking. Grr looks like her tummy is bigger than it should be, but she's taller and every part of her (including her head) is just getting bigger and bigger. She is very active though. If she still has a year or more of growing to do...WOW!

Sorry - one more comment (sometimes I never shut up)...I was agreeing with the opinions expressed earlier in this blog regarding childish postings on TDK. (I'm not referring to the demented idiots - I prefer to just ignore them) In addition to some posts which seem childish or silly, I'm sometimes annoyed by all that text slang that kids tend to use, but then I thought about it a little more. These childish posters ARE kids, and that's how they express themselves. As a mother of 3 daughters, I would much rather see them and their friends checking out a site with cute little kittens (and being interested enough to comment, too) instead of going to online chat rooms or posting questionable pictures of themselves on myspace. I do prefer to talk to adults, but I'm going to look at the kids on there as young people with good priorities. I'll be quiet now...

momsbusy said...

i hope i didn't offend anyone stating that some of the comments seem childish. i agree with karen c. that i would prefer kids visit good sites vs. the other stuff out there.

you can usually tell if a child posts a comment vs. an adult. i like reading comments from kids as they are very honest but syrupy comments from adults is a bit much.

what i have found at KcoTD and PDJ is upbeat, fun to read, and shows the love and responsible approach we have for our pets.

i have a child and she looks at the postings with me. at 9 yrs of age surfing the internet alone is totally off limits. i must be in the room with her. there are too many bad guys out there.

i will step down off my soap box now. sorry about going on and on.

Emma's Kat said...

Never be sorry momsbusy. Like I tell Kim, you know here at Kat's Cat you can talk and go on and on!! I too agree...with you and Karen C. I'm going to eat dinner! It's 6:30 here in VA.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Karen, I agree with you and Momsbusy, it is much more preferable to see kids surfing these sites. I have three young kids and worry a great deal about what I see on the news about kids and the internet. The childish comments that GS and I were refering to are actually being made by adults. Ones that we got to know before TDK went down. That is so frustrating. I don't see myself as being better than anyone, I guess I just prefer a more casual, adult conversation.

BUT PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME THE WRONG WAY!!! I agree with you and think that the way you see things is something for me to learn from. I would never have thought to stop and see some of the conversations in the light that you mentioned. Karen, I thank you for that, for making me see that I need to lighten up and just be happy that there ARE good kids out there! I value what everyone here brings to this site and our conversations. It's nice that we can talk like this!

I love Gypsy's beautiful coloring. She has such a sweet face.

Momsbusy, really glad to hear that someone is guiding their child on the internet. So many don't even watch to see what their children are doing online. I am a senior and I vowed that I would never go on a chat room. And here I am on the best chat rooms ever with TDK, Kat'scat and PDJ. I guess you can call them chat rooms??? Love it.

Anonymous said...

::gasp:: Adults making childish comments? That made me laugh - I immediately thought of all the times I went running to one of my daughters while squeeking in a really high voice and jumping up and down until they went to see whatever kitty I was looking at. Next we scream "awwwwwww" and say lots of ridiculous baby talk nonsense. Then, when I finally calm down, I post something that sounds like I'm a real adult. I'm still laughing...

Anyway, you people are all great. I'm very glad I've met all of you and your pets (ooh - don't tell them I called them that!)

And, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the new pictures of Jonty! Seriously, I can't get enough of that beautiful kitty!

Anonymous said...

By the way, doesn't Gypsy have that "I love you" expression on her face? That's how my Midnight looks at me when she's in her loving mood. Gypsy is such a pretty girl!

Anonymous said...

Yes, I agree. Gypsy has that "I love you" expression.
