GS, I found this quote years ago and had it written in my journal. I was going to post Bagheera w/it, but forgot an posted her early. Sorry:) Forgive me??!! Lol...You should put it under your title Pet Du Jour! Anyway, cat't wait to see Steele!

Susan, Jonty's flickr page is really neat. Those are some really great pictures!!!! I enjoyed that very much!

Kat, get on the ball! LOL! J/J!

Anonymous said...

I saw the other Jonty pictures as well. I just love the one with him on his back. And our cats sleep with their face smooshed up against something as well--the side of the chair, etc.

Hi Jonty!

As for the quote; music can help but cats are a sure-fire help.

Anonymous said...

I love the quote! I hope GS will put it up on her site - it's puurrfect!

Love Jonty's pictures too (but I think I've mentioned that in 4 or 5 other places already - LOL).

Good Morning all!! I am back to normal working conditions (I hope)
Anyway, I checked out all the cute kitties that were posted while I was away...... Very Cute!!!

I tried to check out Jonty's site but I did not get anything. I will have to keep trying. I did see his pics posted here though. SOOOOOO CUTE.

Danielle - I don't know if you did, but you have to double-click on the Flickr box to see them.

[The new Flickr box kitties]
Kat, those are wonderful pictures of your foster kitties! And your newest--he looks like he has such long, tall legs. Does he? He also looks fairly skinny. How wonderful that you do this. I'm getting closer to giving it a try.

Emma's Kat said...

Donna,
He does have kinda long legs. The vet said he was 5lbs. 2oz. and right on target for his weight. They say a kitten should weigh about a pound for every month of age. But I agree he does look a bit thin. I think maybe it's that awkward(sp?) kitten stage of looking lanky. He is so sweet!! I think he is very glad to be outta animal control!! He is so vocal and demanding of attention. He's playing a little this morning as I'm sure he's feeling better now that his meds are kicking in. But he'd rather have pets than play!

Anonymous said...

Hee hee. Kona went through that lanky, gawky "teen-age" time too. So that could very well be it. Wiley was a bit similar when we brought her home. If she wasn't eating, she just wanted to be held and pet. I thought she was going to wear out her purr-maker :-)

So you don't have a name for him yet?

Emma's Kat said...

No...have any suggestions. The only name, so far, that's popped in my head, is Toby. I can't decide if I like Toby or not.

Anyone who wants to suggest a name...I'm all ears!

Anonymous said...

Actually I like the name of Toby. Looks like it would fit him. Glad to hear the little guy is getting better. Poor guy, his eyes are runny with him being sick. Enjoyed seeing your foster kitties. Thanks for posting them

Meowmepurr's Mumma said...

He looks like a Toby to me!

I had a big long post yesterday, and the computer ATE it(LOL). 24 hours later, I'm not sure how much of it I can remember.

KAT-We were both ROFL at the Stupid Dog Tricks(and Stupid Human Tricks)on the video you sent. Thank you.

DONNA-I just finished going through ALL your albums, good job!! Maddie and Kona are lovely kittys, but I LOVE Wiley, short legs and all. I've been owned by 3 Himis, plus I'm only a little over 5', so I identify with short!

I don't know if everyone saw it, but GS checked in from Georgia on TDK yesterday. It appears that Operation Steele is on schedule, and they're doing fine.

There, I think I got most of it--Purrs to all...

Meowmepurr's Mumma said...

OOPS! I forgot to say, KAT, that the slide show is great, and, yes Toby does look like he's going through that lanky stage, where they're all legs, tail and purr!!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Love the foster kits. They are all adorable. How could you ever give them up, though? I like the name Toby, it suits him somehow.
And the picture of Lily in the dog food bag was too cute.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

BTW, just noticed your counter. You started it today? Looks like you are getting quite a few hits. Yeah, KCotD.

Emma's Kat said...

ML, Yeah, I've noticed the counters on other sites so I finally got around to checking them out. Very easy to add. I'm shocked at the amount of people and the places people are from! Someone from Sweden, Spain, Canada & many states are here visiting on Kat's Cat!! Pretty cool!

Anonymous said...

Such sweet little foster babies. The first thing I'm going to do when I'm no longer a renter is volunteer to foster.

I like the name Toby for the new little guy.

Anonymous said...

OK, I'll be a dissenting voice on this one...I kind of don't like Toby for him. Can't pin down why. But I haven't thought of anything else yet either. Hmmmmm....

Emma's Kat said...

That's kinda me Donna. Don't ask me why it popped into my head, but I'm just not liking it that much. It's cute, but...I can't think of anything else yet either.

Sorry for the length...
The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, or George or Bill Bailey -
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter -
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover -
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

--T.S. Eliot

This is too cute, on naming cats.

(You can tell it's slow at work today, can't you?)

Emma's Kat said...

Thanks Donna, I'd actually never heard that poem. I've heard someone talk about a cat having to have 3 names, but not heard the poem. Anyway, thanks for the site on naming cats too. I was kinda thinking, since it's just a temporary name, of callling him Mouth. He is so vocal and loud!! Everytime you say something to him(& even when u don't), he meows right back. So, Mouth kinda suits him.

Prince Brutus said...

Hi Everyone!
Kat,Your new foster fuzz looks like he has SUCH a bad head cold, poor thing!! I like Mouth for a name! Or, if you want to be fancier, when I was taking voice lessons, to warm up I'd have to do "Vocalese" - vocal exercises...sounds sorta "Amadeus", huh?...No, Mouth is good!

Emma's Kat said...

Rose, You like to sing too? I love singing. I sing in my church choir. I want to someday soon take some voice lessons also. As Rosie would say...DISCUSS.

Rosie?! Where are you? You have been busy? We haven't seen you here. Are you abandoning us here at Kat's Cat? Rosie...we Need you...lol.

Prince Brutus said...

Kat, you'll LOVE taking voice lessons! I studied for about 7 years, sang in chorus & concert choir in college, and choir & folk group at church - all in the same time frame! REHEARSALS ON TOP OF REHEARSALS...LOVED IT!! I'm a soprano,(and from NJ..never watch the show...!) but in concert choir, where we sang madrigals mostly, and other
a capella pieces, theory really helped me to listen to the other parts as well as sing my own...
I really miss it, but I lost all my breath control with surgery and just being ill...I know I could get that back, have to just get back to it. My voice teacher Suzanne is exactly 30 years older than me, our birthdays are 2 days apart and we still e-mail and talk frequently...she has, at present, 4 yorkies! I wondered...if there was a "yorkie of the day" site?! I should get her to start one!
So, now we've "discussed", I've been wondering too...
........AHEM.......Ptooooy, schnoort....YOUR TURN, ROSIE!!!

Emma's Kat said...

I grew up in my church always singing. But that is the extent of it. Well, in the car and shower also, and in Elementary, but...wow, Elementary was a long time ago...lol!! I am an alto and I really want to join a group (arrgghh! I can't think of their name) that a friend of mine is in. The are made up of about 30 people. There have quartets and sing for local events and just have a blast. I am not much for singing by myself. I have what they call Microphonbia. Heard of it? J/K...well, not really, but some day soon I will sing a solo!:)

Emma's Kat said...

*Elementary school, that is!

Prince Brutus said...

Oh! I've NEVER had the nerve to sing solo!! In fact, I was so shy, the highest compliment after "all tht training" was that I had a "nice blending voice"!! ROLF!!!!
Getting back to Mouth...I like the name, because it sounds like "House"...My Favourite TV Show! (Hugh Laurie should be cloned!! It's criminal!!)

Meowmepurr's Mumma said...

DONNA-As I was reading the T.S. Eliot you quoted, I was also singing it in my head. It went, almost verbatum, into the musical "CATS," which I have on tape, CD, DVD. I've also been to 5 performances--actually sitting on the stage for 1 of them, in Chicago.

ROSE & KAT-I'm still a singer as well-but only for myself now. In prep school, our voice teacher/choir master had also had my mother and step-mother in choir(25 years earlier!). He looked at me for the first time, and said, "You look familiar, who is your mother?" When I told him, he snorted and said, "Jean couldn't carry a tune in a tin bucket, can you?"

Well, I could then(soprano), but age and smoking have done me in for anything other than the shower and the car. My "new(only 5 years old) car" has a 6 disc CD player, so I can load up enough good stuff to drive down to my brother's place(6hrs)and back, without having to repeat. I still sing lots of old Broadway and 60's rock.

You're right--ROSIEEEEE--WHERE ARE YOU??

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Hope Toby aka Mouth (Bocca???) is feeling better this evening. He looked a bit under the weather in the first pictures. Poor little guy. He sure is a cutie in a gangly sort of way. Can't wait to see some new pictures of him after he's had a good home for a few days.
Kat, don't you dare let that camera leave the house tomorrow!!!

Emma's Kat said...

LOL...ML, he actually forgot it yesterday! So, maybe he will today!! He's doing a house remodel and wants before & after pix. :( Bocca...I think I really like that! Anything Spanish works for me!! Doesn't he look miserable in his pix. He's definately feeling better, but still a little congested. ML, he is so sweet. This is gonna be a hard one to see go! But, 3 kitties is enough for me! And a dog...2 human kids, well 3(hubby!).

Prince Brutus said...

OOhhh! "Bocca" is COOL!!!

Anonymous said...

I like Bocca too! :-)

Emma's Kat said...

Then Bocca it is! The more I say it, the more I like it. Thanks ML!

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Well, great. Like I just posted in the ***wrong*** place, Boca is Spanish, and Bocca is Italian. Gosh, I can't believe it. Want more pictures!!!!

Emma's Kat said...

That's cool that it's so similar in Spanish and Italian. I am gonna stick w/the Spanish version. Thanks again, ML...I never would've thought of it.

Anonymous said...

We thought about naming Wiley "baci" which I believe means "kisses" in Italian. For some reason, though, we decided against it. It took us 3 days to decide on her name.

momsbusy said...

kat1 - love the name boca for the new kitty. i agree that toby didn't quite fit. i don't know why i was thinking you hadn't posted any pics of him yet. guess i was confused. :) that's been my life this week.

didn't know we have so many singers here. i also sing in my church choir.

rose, i have one of those "blend well with others" voices.

donna, love the poem i will have to copy and print it on some velum to frame and hang on my wall. maybe change the font to something a little fancy.

i apologize to all this week for seeming a little out of sorts. i can't access the comments to post at work now so i have to wait till the end of the day/night to post. by then i am so tired i am almost incoherant. my daughter was sick tuesday so i lost a day and we have 5 projects going on at work. then wednesday i received a call for an "in person" job interview. thursday (yep, the very next day) had the only late afternoon opening left. aparently, i charmed them with my phone interview. the catch with the interview was i had to draw a piece of equipment that they manufacture on their computers right then. ever had your mind go blank??? hopefully they will make a decision by the end of next week.

sorry for rambling - but i had to get this off my chest. whew! feel better already. it is such a scary step changing jobs.

Emma's Kat said...

Well good luck Shirley!! It is scary, but if it's meant to be...everything will fall into place! That's what I love about everyone here. We are comfortable enough that we can blow off steam, babble as much as we want and everyone will listen and give support whenever you need it! Like we've said before...I love my fuzz pack!!

Anonymous said...

Hi Shirley, I too wish you lots of good luck. My employer's funding technically runs out at the end of June. They are, of course, optimistic that they can get additional funding but it's still a bit nerve-wracking. I don't relish the prospect of having to start looking for another job.

Be sure to let us know the outcome.

Oscar the Puppy Cat said...

Hang in the Shirley! I'm thinking about you too, and wishing you lots of luck.

..ahe...aHE..aheheheHEM!!!!!.......
HYAK!.I'm here.and for some strange reason, I can NEVER see the quote that is allegedly posted above the cat picture every day so I don't know what I'm supposed to be commenting on!!.................
(BTW..Meowpurr, I'm watching you...ahhal*...)

*ahhal* is the sound kitties make when they open their mouths to do a mini-yawn....and then they close their mouth really quickly with 1/2 of their toungue still sticking out.................

The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...

Hi Shirley,
You're a strong person, and I hope things go fine with your interview!
Also hope your daughter's had a full recovery! Thanks for posting and sharing with us, because Kat's site is all about sharing and hugs and prayers and being there for each other...take it from "Ramblin' Rose" herself! (She with the "blending voice")!

Donna, I'm sending good thoughts up for your job security, also. My friend works in a grant funded position, so I can empathize with you...

I had my hopes up for a part-time job, but it was with the Borough, and I was told they could only afford volunteers...!!?!?!...I regained the confidence that I can still do the job, now all I need is a car to get me to agencies/interviews!!
Must Think Positive - the alternative - HYAK!!!

The Royals and Gentleman Beau said...

sorry Rosie!!!

momsbusy said...

my daughter had one of those 24 hour stomach bugs (yucky!).she's better now. thanks to all for the support. it's what i love about this site.

i am hoping to know the outcome of the interview by next friday. it sure will make for a long week.

donna - will keep you in my prayers. if the funding comes about then great, if not, then i will pray that something just right will come your way. keep us informed.

rosie - i also have trouble with the quote of the week showing up on screen. usually i will highlight it with my pointer and it will show up so i can read it. try it and see if it will work for you.

Emma's Kat said...

Everyone, I'll have to try an figure out what's going on. It does it to me too, but nobody ever said anything till now, so I thought it was just me! I don't understand what would make it do that. I'll find out though!!

Rosie, I'll pretend I'm Rose today, just for this moment. Shirley is momsbusy. And Danielle, another question too. How long does Jake have to take his meds? Forever?
