Zeus

Hello, my name is Zeus, and I'm an American Classic Tabby. I seduced my human pet into choosing me as her fellow companion by pretending to be broken at the local PetSmart. At least that is what the other homo sapiens told my human pet. "He never stops purring. We don't know why. You might want to take him to the vet." It's amazing how easily manipulated homo sapiens can be because five years later, this ploy still works!

*Check out Emma's blog for Friday Fun!*

Oh Zeus, they thought you were broken? Way to go, Dude!! I happen to LOVE ginger kitties, even though I am owned by two Tuxedo Cats at the moment. I had such a hard time NOT telling Deb* to just send Grace and all the kittens up here!

Happy Friday, all my Fuzz Sisters!

I am up WAY too early this morning, but we are headed out to the opening day of our County Fair. On opening day, there is free admission and free pancake breakfast. Paul can't resist anything "free!" We will probably stay all day. I won't get to go back until next Saturday, since I'll be away most of the week.

Mother arrives Tuesday, and I have to deliver her to my brother down on the South Coast of Oregon. It will be good to see my brother! I probably won't be back until late on Friday, but Paul will be here, doing staff duty for the mob.

Dear Zeus, I have always admired your classic good looks and suave reparte and wit. You are aptly named. Thank you for sharing your views of the world with we lowly humans who serve you and your fellow felines.

P.S. Forgot to mention that I have to practice acking surprised tonight when my husband takes me out to pick up our dear, new Charlotte from PetSmart. She can be seen on a website for the rescue group, The Cat Connection, out of Berkley, Michigan. I'm so excited that it is hard to work today.

Let me know what you think, suggestions, requests, boos & hisses, whatever.

Whenever someone gets adopted from http://sevenlonelykittens.blogspot.com,, they are moved to this site.

DEB: Naa-naa-naa. I'm up.

Oh, and I need an update/info on the Middle TN Momma & Kitten -- if they are not adopted, going to list them. That kitten is adorable, looks so much like KC. And the Momma is a beauty. They could always fly to Houston! Right, Deb! ...okay, okay, I'm going to bed now.

Oh Zeus so glad to see you on Katscat. You are really a handsome one. Loved your ploy, sure did work. So you are a purrrer like Patches. She likes to meow and purr at the same time. Sure do like the picture to my right. That's what I would call looking cutesy. Casper looks that way when he knows he has been a bad kitty and wants to make up to me. Are you being coy??

Hey everyone!

Firstly, thank you for all of the compliments concerning Zeus. Being his true owner (though he'd never admit it!) has been such a blessing in my life. He and I have been through so much that I don't think I could ever truly pay the memories justice.

As to the "broken" issue, it is true. When I went to adopt him, the ladies were very serious concerning his purring issue. They believed he had a problem with his vocal chords or throat since he purred 24/7. I know that might be hard to believe, but it's true. After having him looked at, though, there was nothing wrong with him physically. That is just simply how laid back and easy going he is.

Zeus has even come to school with me as a reward for my students with hearing loss. He has been a terrific motivator to them! He never ceases to amaze me with how well he interacts with children.

Thank you once again for all of the sweet and endearing words concerning both him and his blog. Thank you for featuring him on this site. It really made a difference in my day when I needed to hear something nice in a bad way.

- Marina, Zeus' human pet

That's the way Patches was when I first brought her inside the house. Scared to death. She would hide all the time. She knew where the food and water was and also the kitty litter and I just left her alone. It took a long time but she came out on her own and very slowly. She finally got used to it all and now I look at her and say, you have come a long way baby. She loves to be petted. I could only pet her with one hand but now I can get away with two. She does not like to be held for a long period of time even now. It took her several years to get where she is now. She has lived half her life outside and half inside. Hope Jade comes around sooner than Patches did. She sounds like she has been very tramatized.

Happy Birthday Claire!! Have fun with Charlotte.

Marina - You're welcome and thank you for letting me post your sweet Zeus on my site! It's so great he can go to school with you! My cousin, actually two of my cousins (sisters) teach deaf and blind children. I commend you for the work you do!

Karen - Poor Jade! Do you know anything about her past? Was she turned into the shelter? Sounds to me like she's ferral or abused. Will she let anyone touch her? I have fostered a few ferral kittens. I fostered two in particular that came from a sibling group of four, that were ferral and so scared! They were about 3-4 months when I got them, Daisy and Sophia I called them. They hissed and spit at me and hunkered down when I'd go to pet them. They were small enough that I set up Sammie's XL crate for them. Otherwise they would have hidden in the house and I would've never found them! Anyway, I worked with them everyday, holding them and petting them and talking quitely to them. After a couple of weeks I moved them to my bedroom and then finally let them have free reign in the house. It took about 6 weeks before I could actually reach down and pet Daisy. I had them for about 10 weeks and Sophia still wouldn't let me pet her to the day she went up to PetsMart. And if you startled her or tried to grab her by sneaking up on her, you'd better watch out for her teeth. Once she was in your arms, she was fine, although she didn't much want to be there. Sophia was adopted, and I hope she learned to trust. My advice to Norma would be to just keep working with her and try treats. That's how I made some good progress w/Daisy & Sophia. Although Sophia never took a treat directly from my hand, Daisy would. Sophia would come all the way up to me and then knock the treat out of my hand. She was a smart girl! Jade is gonna need lots of patience and time to come around it sounds like. There has to be something in her past, obviously, to explain why she is so scared. Karen, did you say she was abused?

Madness, Trouble, Squish and Milkbone said...

The first cat I had that was part-feral was Bubbles. He would not let me touch him for at least a month. It just takes patience and time. In the beginning I would suggest to give her a little space to get used to her surroundings. The main thing is that she should never feel threatened. Don't force her to do something she does not want to do. I'm sure she will come around, but be prepared; it will take a lot of time.
Now Bubbles is the sweetest little cat you can imagine. To this day he does not want strangers to touch him, but once he know and tusts you he is very loving.

Hi Everyone, just thought I would post since I only had a chance to take a peak at the picture while at work. It's been a busy day, I got paid today and had to go stock up on supplies for my kitties. Then I came home and cut the grass and did yardwork, now I'm beat.
Zeus you are one handsome boy. I can tell you definitely rule the house. And what pretty eyes you have!
Claire not sure if you'll see this, but wanted to wish you a happy birthday too, and I hope everything works out with Charlotte.
I'm not sure what's wrong with Fitz. My mom says he and Ella got into another fight while I was at work and when I got home, he came out and went and got on my parents bed and has been sleeping there ever since. I might have to try to get him to the vet if he stays like this.

Moms - I love those pix; saw them earliers! Too cute! Love the one of the kitty hugging the little chihuahua as well!

ML - How are you feeling?

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Hi again.
Sorry, forgot to post. I've got bronchitis & severe asthma reaction. Was running fever, something Inever do. Can't talk, which is really really bad. Got a shot, plus a K-pack (think that's it) and some bed rest. Oh, and more codeine, which explains the fuzzy feeling.
Happy birthday, claire.
And poor little Jade, feel for her being so stressed.
Gonna go lie back down, little KC, Bear and Missy are all doing great. KC and Bear were playing ball a few minutes ago, both of them were rolling around on the floor. Think Missy wants to join in, she watches on the sidelines, then when one of them pushes a ball to her, she runs and hides.

Emma's Kat said...

ML - Get some rest! I sure hope you'll feel better soon! Sure can't wait to see a picture of Bear & KC playing!! Missy will get there! Sounds like she's probably having a great time just watching!
