KC a.k.a Tough A#s Tortie

I think everyone knows KC's story by now, but just in case, here it is again:

Karen C (Grr, Midnight & Cocoa) volunteers at a shelter during the week. For some reason, she stopped by on a Sunday. They were just bringing in a tiny kitten who had been picked up on the wharf. This kitten, who only weighed a few ounces, had a rap sheet and was promptly given a "yellow dot". Karen started playing with the vicious kitten and instantly fell in love. She promised the kitten that she save her from the back room and find her a home. Deb (The Taylor Catsssss) got involved in the process of getting the kitten released for adoption. It took her hundreds of phone calls and emails. Karen snuck food in to feed the kitten and talked to her. That Friday, it was a highly coordinated effort, as Deb got the kitten released and Karen rushed into the shelter to pick her up. The kitten spent her first night with The Triple Threat, Karen and her daughters. During her brief time there, they imparted a great deal of kitty knowledge to her. The next day, she was put on a plane for a five-hour flight to Houston. I was certain I did not want a second cat, right up until the crate door opened and I saw that little bit of bright fluff. I picked her up and would not let her go. On the car ride home, she crawled up to the front seat and got on Charley's shoulder and stayed there. There was never any doubt her name would be KC, in honor of Karen C, who saved her from the back room. She has a middle initial, D, in honor of Deb. She has grown into an absolute beauty of a cat, as Dr. Smith, her vet says, she is a goddess. She climbs, she hunts, she talks in melodious tones, she plays and she snuggles. -ML

Fun Fact: Today is Missy Blue Eye's one year anniversary of being "cat of the day"!!

It seems like so long ago! We all waited with baited breath to see what would happen. She was Karen's first passion at finding homes for the ones who had no chance at a future. KC, you've grown into such a beauty of a Tortie! A fierce killer I think is what they described you as. Boy, did you ever prove them wrong! ML, you and Charley have done so much and she has grown so much. Deb, if you're still hanging around, thank you for your help too. And Karen, words can't express the work you've done with the kitties at the shelter!

Oh those dots - Mommy hates those dots. At our shelter it's the red ones that make Mommy's eyes leak. K.C. is such a gorgeous Tortie and what a tragedy it would have been if not for Karen. Happy endings are the best!

KC's story still touches me every time I read it - and this doesn't even include the trials & tribulations of the ladiegardenectomy scare!
We at Purrchance To Dream send our love and purrs to KC, who is one of our blogging heroes!!!

Good Morning, all. I'd never heard KC's whole story before, and it brought a tear to my eye. I always get such a good laugh out of KC's pictures, and just know she must be so entertaining to ML and her family. Deb and Karen, thanks for saving KC so that she has been able to bring some sunshine into all of our lives.

I never knew KC's story before either, so thanks for sharing it here. KC looks so sad in the cage, I am so very happy that she found such a great home, and that people cared about her.

I knew parts of KC's story before, but not the whole thing. Isn't Deb an angel in human form? Grace, Audace, and Ruse think so, too.

These are FABULOUS photos of KC. Congrats!! And happy anniversary to Missy, too! Wonderful things to celebrate!

I love looking at the pictures all together and seeing how much she's changed. Her shelter picture, in the cage, was taken just as I walked into the room. The shelter worker said she "couldn't" get KC out of the cage to take the picture because she was hissing and growling. Look at that little face - the poor baby was terrified. All she needed was a little cuddling and love. Well, and food - all they gave her was kitten crunchies and she didn't even have enough teeth to eat them yet. There's a whole set of pictures taken when Deb and ML went to pick up KC from the airport that were just wonderful. They made me cry, I was so happy. KC sure has grown into a lovely girl, in the purrfect home!

KC looked scared to death in that picture in the cage. I still cannot believe such a tiny terrified kitten could terrorize the shelter workers. How wimpy can people be? I guess the people that work in animal shelters see so many healthy animals put down because they can't find homes. Maybe they get used to it, but I never could. So I keep supporting my local humane society's spay/nueter program, as I know you all do as well. If we could just get people to realize that a simple surgery could save so many dogs and cats!

I am so glad KC was able to be rescued. She has grown into a beautiful girl!

We didn't know this part of KC's story before.

I agree with karen.c, no way that little kittie is vicious. That kittie is scared to death, or maybe starving or sick.
