Cheebie

Cheebie means "small or little". Which he was when we found him. He was a wild little ball of grey fuzz. He had managed to sneak into the shop where I worked and was surprised to see everyone come in and find him. He may have been about 6 weeks old but he was 20 years of spit, hiss and fire when we tried to catch him. Of course, I took him home and he stayed with us. He became a big beautiful boy even though we almost lost him after discovering he had cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart). He almost drowned when the fluid built up in his lungs. Luckily we got him to the vet in time and that's when he was diagnosed with his heart ailment. We were warned he probably would not live a long life. He passed away last year from liver failure at 12 years old. We like to think he had an enlarged heart to hold all of the love he had for our family. He was a sweet loving cat. -Shirley

Cheebie is beautiful! He looks so soft and has a sweet face. I know you miss him, but he is still with you. I feel the love you shared with him from reading your story. You will never have another Cheebie but you will be able to love other cats because of Cheebie. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Shirley, thanks for sharing him.
I just thought, because your shared your story with Cheebie, and the love you shared, it's like he lives in all our hearts now. He has, in a way, become a part of us, too. Thanks Kat!

cheebie had yellow/green colored eyes. not really one or the other color. his fur was incrediably soft, like the fleece blankets you can buy. very cuddly. his was one of those cats that had a ton of purrsonality. he would speak to you, knew when you felt down, cuddled when you needed, and always wanted to be a part of what was going on. i still cry whenever i think of him.

my husbands favorite memory of cheebie was that he liked to eat sour cream and onion potato chips w/ him while they watched TV. at least they didn't do it often.

Hi Shirley, your husband's memory really paints a visual picture. I can see them sitting in an armchair/recliner, just the two of them. Not paying the slightest bit of attention to anyone or anything, just eating chips and watching TV. It's very sweet to think about! Cheebie is a cat who had tons of personality. Don't cry today, we want you to laugh at the funny things. Crying is just fine but hopefully we'll bring out the funny, silly side of things for you. You're such a wonderful person, It's nice that you would share such a special memory with us.
Thank you!

Oh Shirley, Cheebie is just so beautiful. As the others have said, I feel now like I knew at little bit of him. I loved your story on how you met. Of course, after you finally caught him, he's the one who ultimately caught you--with your heart. Wonderful Cheebie.

Sorry about your loss of your Cheebie. So glad you were able to catch him when he was a baby. It's so hard catching them when they are so little and I know it's because of fear. If they know how great a home they will get, I don't think they would run. Cleo was an exception though, when I spoke she stood still until I got to her and picked her up. Guess she was to hungry to be frightened.

So glad you got twelve years with Cheebie. He still lives in your heart. His coloring is so beautiful.

Cheebie is a very beautiful cat! Thanks for sharing him!!

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful comments on my kitty Max. And to answer the questions about his health, he is a very healty kitty. He gets a lot of exercise hiding from my one year old and playing with his 1.5 year old brother, Bear Cat. Bear keeps him very busy! Also I have placed his food bowl and litter box in the basement so he gets to run up and down the stairs for that!

Shirley, I'm so glad you had so many wonderful years with Cheebie. He was a beautiful boy.

Until you know what's happening, cariomyopathy is very scary. Our dear Rudy(yes, Kat, I know the rule!) only lived for 6 months after his started when he was nine. He, too, was a very sweet boy, and was so patient and calm throughout his illness. Ru liked to sit on Paul's shoulder (he "only" weighed 16 lbs), and watch him eat. He would never beg or grab, just watch every bite from the plate to the mouth...

There, that made me smile, and I hope you do too.

What a beautiful boy! He looks a lot like my mother's kitty who passed away a few months ago. I love the description "wild little ball of gray fuzz". I'm glad you and he had 12 years of love together.
