We got Rockie when she was about 6 weeks old. We had recently had to put our oldest cat down, and someone in my office decided we needed a new kitty, which we didn't want. She brought Rockie, who was the runt of the litter, as well as her brother, who was at least twice her size, into the office the next day. Rockie was absolutely terrified, which made me fall in love with her immediately. I brought her home, initially against my husband's wishes. That only lasted until he saw her for the first time. Rockie is now 9 1/2 years old, and can still run and jump as well as ever. Her older sister Polar Bear (15 1/2 years old) tolerates her. When Rockie was a kitten she used to swing from a rope on her post, and when she got too big for that she moved up to that light! Rockie was recently featured in The Daily Kitten (December 17th). We love them both so much, they have added much joy and laughter to our lives! -Judy

i totally remember Rockie from TDK. such a cute kitten and now to see her grown up and doing the same acrobats is adorable! she has beautiful stripes and markings.

Rockie got her name for a couple of reasons -- the cartoon Rocky the Flying Squirrel (for her speed), the song Rocky Raccoon (because of her coloring), and yes even Rocky the movie (for being such a little fighter even as the runt).

Someone asked how Rockie got her name.
Originally, her eye markings reminded us of a raccoon, which in turn reminded us of an old Beatles song.
But we quickly decided that her full name should be Rocket J. Squirrel in honor of the cartoon character of the same name, as you can see from these photos.
We spell it Rockie because she's a girl!

Why does Rockie remind me of KC? We have considered changing KC's name to Rocky for the flying squirrel because she climbs (just like your Rockie) on anything and everything. She leaps & spreads her legs out like 'wings' and glides down. Does Rockie do that, too? Probably.
Rockie is really a cutie, look at those black back feet bottoms and that precious face.
